Can the key fob open your gas cover?

A few days ago I was fooling with my keyfob trying to open my trunk and I clicked the open trunk part about 5 times untill it opened. As the trunk opened I noticed my gas cover popped open at the same time. I know my cover was shut completely, so it didn't just slide open. So is there a function on the key fob that I don't know about? Or is this just random?

You probably had the cover spring pressed in while locked, and you unlocked the car so when the lock slid out of the door cover it popped open since it was already pressed in.

The spring might be getting old and worn out. I remember a few times when I was locking my car the locking pin for the gas door hit the tab inside at the right angle and the door popped completely open. I've had to replace that spring 3 times now.

BMW knows motors but they could take lessons from Toyota on fuel door flaps and glovebox latches.
