Fan always on

I've just looked under the hood of my car and realised that a connector at the front was disconnected.. I connected it and the engine fan came on even though the car was switched off and the keys not in the ignition... I've only just bought the car and starting to worry that I've bought a real POS because the floorpan/subframe is also cracked.

Any idea what the problem could be and why that connector has been disconnected?

Thanks

The fan shouldnt power on like that so could be that the previous owner unplugged the fan instead of fixing or replacing it. If you have a cracked sub-frame i would suggest selling the car and hope you can get as much as you paid for it.

Don't post questions about your car without the mileage and year. And any other details which might come to mind that are relevant.
Who did you buy this car from? You may want to consider getting aggressive about taking it back for a refund if fraud was involved.

Fan on could be a bad relay or sensor or ECM among other things.

OP, the exact thing that you are describing happened to me. My fan would keep spinning even with my keys out of the ignition. Because I couldn't buy (or hadn't found a vendor for) that little module on the fan, I went and bought an entire new fan shroud assembly, module included. Cost about $170 from eBay. It's a very simple DIY to replace, and it's been working well for me ever since. Good luck.

Thanks... Sorry it's a 99 323ci with 130k - I think I've been completely screwed over! I'm currently in talks with the seller because I've had it checked over and the garage I took it to are certain the the MOT is dodgy.

Happens to many once before you learn.

Hope you can get aggressive about making this right!
