Ethanol

So what would you guys rather choose. 87 octane, ethanol free ......................or 93 octane w/ ten percent ethanol?

93 w. ethanol would be my choice between those two but i know of a place with 91 w/out ehtanol over here and it seems to love that fuel. very good gas milage compared to 93 with the ethanol

I found 93 ethanol free over here and that stuff was like GOLD. great power still, but gas milage went 2 MPG better at least

Yes, there are only 24 gas stations in Pa. that sell ethanol free Petrol, and the one closest to me only sells the 87....
...what If I were to fill up with the 87 ethanol free then added a can of 110 octane boost, you think that would be like using 91 0r 93?

I've also heard non ethanol fuel uses no attitives so it may be a good idea to add a little bit of fuel conditioner with a full tank of ethanol free. I've been running v power 93 lately n it runs really good just got 21.7mpg 70% city 30% highway

Anyone on this forum have a website showing where to buy 93 without ethanol in it.

I haven't had any luck, at least not in Texas. There's a local place that sells 87. I asked him about 93. He said he WISHED he could get it. He'd have every vette owner within 100 miles filling up.

So where are you guys getting the info about the amount of ethanol in the fuel? I know some stations post a placard on the pump if it contains more than 10% ethanol. I know california gas contains more ethanol because it's suppose help with emissions

Not sure on this one, ethanol raises octane but due to its lower btu ratings its not as good as pure fuel with no ethanol. Thats why fuels that contain more ethanol give you less mpg due to the fact that you need more of that fuel to do the same work as fuel with no ethanol.

E10 makes such a little difference. It just means gas companies can make 93 AKI gas at the pump out of 92 AKI gas and government subsidized ethanol, and for performance it means 3.2% less energy in the gasoline.

I'm thinking it would come down to how much I wanted to spend on gas. With the higher compression ratio in the S54, I'd lean more towards the higher octane, but a non-M has such a low compression ratio I doubt it cares.

104 is a nitro-propanol and methanol additive. It has most of the same effects on the runability as ethanol.

E10 will lower mileage cause alcohol contains less energy per lb than gasoline.
It cools the combustion and carries oxygen to help burn cleaner...

In general most cars run a bit lean on E10. I find adding a bit more fuel pressure
when running E10 seems to help performance on most engines.

Side note,, When we switch race cars from gas to methanol we double the
size of the fuel cell to run the same length race.

Klotz makes several fuel products that we use in our sprint cars and
road race cars, Uplon is a fuel stabilizer for Alcohol that helps the methanol
not react with the Aluminum parts in the engine
(Aluminum+Methanol+oxygen = accelerated corrosion same with ethanol.).
The good thing about the race products is they sell them in economical sizes,
like 1 gallon cans and you only need like a ounce to get the job done because
its really concentrated.

So there are some options to help but at the end of the day, Any alcohol in the fuel lowers mileage.

Cheers.
Dave

For most newer cars, I wouldn't think so. The ECU is going to get readings from the oxygen sensors about any lean condition and trim the fuel accordingly.

I'm gonna run e85, I put half a tank in last week no issues. I'll put a full tank in this weekend.
