No more tire rack to OZ?

Well I know from my experience a few months ago, they wouldn't ship certain Conti and Pirelli lines to Australia. However, I was speaking to a chap who wrote off his rotary-powered 626 and insurance refused the payout because he bought his tyres from the States and they didn't have the ADR(?) markings on he sidewall.

I guess it depends on tyres but if he was running something decent an e-mail showing the performance of the tyre compared to the cheapest tyre that met load ratings would prove the tyres had no impact on the claim.

Sadly Tirerack told me they could not ship Advan AD08 to Australia. They were fine with Michelin though. Never asked about other brands so maybe they could still send those over.

And people get offended when I try and neglect tariffs...

Out government is the most f*cked up government in relation to finance. Ok we get it, we need Medicare, we need our raids fixed etc etc however they have just become out of control !

I ordered and received a set of Dunlop z1's a couple of weeks ago from tirerack.

I met him while waiting to get new tyres. To be perfectly honest, he seemed like a bit of a dropkick, but he knew of Tirerack etc.

Thanks for that insight though, I really hope to get my next set from the US as the savings are more than significant when going for the good rubber.

It's probably more likely that his claim wasn't paid due to undisclosed engine modifications or otherwise. If his tyres had good tread I highly doubt they would've refused to pay a claim based on the tyre not having an Australian approval on it. So long as they have tread and meet load ratings it's generally fine.

There's also the potential that he was running illegal sizes.

Tirerack is still shipping to Australia but a number of tyres and brands have been banned

Completely devastated about the tax free threshold changing... Makes a HUGE difference to me, I probably won't be able to afford the second car anymore :S


I wouldn't have to buy my parts from oversea's if all the retailers over here were screwing me because they were being screwed by their government. There's a lesson to be learned here.

Good to hear Tim. It sounds like only a few banks have been impacted by this.

Looks like certain brands are only not allowed to be shipped to OZ.

I told him my mate ordered TOYO and he said the manufacturer has prohibited the shipping to OZ.

I have sent another email asking which other brands aren't allowed to be shipped.

Go the Bridgestone Re-11s anyway Raj. I had them on the M5 and they were insane grip wise.

The first I heard of this was regarding Michelins and specifically the PSS's. I hope this isn't the case!

Unfortunately the PSS's come in just above the $1,000 threshold for E46 M3 sizes Last time I checked it was $1,040AUD.
