So I got the gaskets (VCG + Vanos), new NKG spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter done and guess what, fuel consumption is up to 13.2 L (and this is running 98RON BP ultimate). I have noticed a torque improvement below 3000 rpm, but still gulping through the fuel.

When I lived in gladstone I was getting around 11/12. Now that I am in brissy I'm sitting on 9. Man this car loves the 110km/hr freeways!!!

Bumping this thread.

I think my one is f***ed..

Took it to the dealership to check out some noise with the steering column, it was averaging 12-13L/100km.

Now after two weeks of monitoring it, it's shot up to figures of 14-17L/100km. The last tank was filled 60L and I got around 400km from that.

Fuel is BP Ultimate.

Where do I begin to diagnose the problem?

On top of that - sometimes in the morning, I'll start her up, and there'll be an indicator with a cog and exclamation mark in the middle. If I try to change gear from park to drive, there'll be a sudden jolt. I then just turn her off and start her again and the indicator usually go away, and the jolt goes away too. I looked up the owners manual and it says to take it your BMW dealer. Also lately, I've noticed I just get no power from idle and seems unresponsive, but after 10mins since starting this problem will go away too.

Help me diagnose please. I'm trying to read up on the various DIY and I'm thinking along the lines of thermostat, vanos seals..?

Sorry I can't help but you'll probably get a better response if you post a separate thread and in the general section. It will get a lot more visibility there.

True - but I've noticed people tend to get accused for not using the search function or they get suggested to type in a particular term in search but then a million threads will pop up.

I'll give it a go.

I don't often post in the general section but I've never had that. I do obviously search before I post a thread. There's no harm in saying you've searched but couldn't find the answer

With my 320i I was averaging between 13-14l/100km, mostly start/stop commuting using V Power. Sold it to my brother when I got my f30 and he's now using 95 ron fuel and getting over 15l/100km - having said that he's driving in far slower conditions to and from work than I was. These cars drink. I've also found that because of the torque deficit on the smaller capacity engines, you burn more fuel getting up to speed than you do with, for example, a 330.

Bumping; '06 330Ci Steptronic here, I always fill up with 98; current tank is 12.4 L/100, avg speed 36.5km/h. I'd estimate about 5% hard driving, 20% spirited driving, 75% loping around both in the city and on highway. Before the hols in peak hour driving it was more like 13-13.5L/100, which is probably about right, given my old '99 328Ci used to do about 11.5 in city, but it was a manual. The 330 is making my old E38 740iL look not too bad though, it used around 16-18L/100 in the city - just shy of 2 tonnes and 210kW from a 4.4 litre.

Also posting for the record, Redbook states the following manufacturer claims for City / Highway / Combined, for an '06 330Ci:

Manual: 10.0 / 6.2 / 9.1
Auto: 10.5 / 6.6 / 9.6

My 330Ci is showing 12.1 L/100 at the present time. Gets a diet of either Caltex Vortex 98 or Shell V-Power 98 (depending on which voucher I have on me at the time!)
