I was the other way around. Did bad in math/chem/physics and hated school, then started taking engineering and got all A's and loved it.

I'm halfway trough my IE degree but so far Calculus II, Statics, Electricity & Magnetism and Chemistry have all given me an unpleasant time.

OP I thought you were the youngest most successful engineer at your work who constantly complains about not having any friends who are as accomplished as you. Yet you don't even have an engineering degree?

I thought the lecture/theory of Control Systems was the hardest class. But the lab where we used the theory was awesome. Got an A in the lab and like a C- in the lecture, haha.

Thinking of going back to school for EE..this thread is pretty helpful and interesting. I like the work I'm doing now for BAE in the test dept, but have an urge to want to understand by knowing rather than by doing (electronics test tech.) Talked to my dad about it, (serves as engineering fellow/chief engineer at lockheed) learning through application and then going back to school to take the core classes, it's backwards but it's gotten me interested to where I genuinely will want to learn.

Depending on how far you take statics/solid mechanics, you'll look back at statics and laugh. I had my first test yesterday in Mechanics I (first in a long line of physics mechanics courses) and 2/5 questions were straight up statics. I have never felt more intelligent.

There are courses you hate and courses you'll love.
Every course builds on previous. If you suck at the first one you'll suck at the others. Straight up math sucks because it's never like that.

the useless **** was the most annoying. computer science was taught by a bunch of pimply faced virgins. chemistry also sucked. my ta was hot as **** and i spent the semester trying to bang her, but the lecture was by some boring ass i don't even remember. math wan't too hard, except that it also was taught by some nerdy ass know it all ta's who would rather be doing some good will hunting **** instead of lowly calc and linear alg. in eng the hardest ones were the math based signal processing **** that was like another language.
i was bsme.

all depends on the school you go to / went to.
I got a BSME from Purdue. I thought controls and fluids were the hardest. Controls because I personally didn't like it, fluids because our professor was a raging asshole. Over 50% of my fluids class got a D+ or worse. I got a 79.9% C- and he wouldn't bump me up that last .1% to a B-. Raging asshole....I actually liked fluids and was pretty good at it.

Thank you. BSME, Cal Poly SLO. Finished up a few years ago, now just working traveling and investing. I liked pretty much all of my classes. Hardest was probably upper division control systems primarily due to the professor. Great to see so many engineers on here.

That's not always true. I failed statics the first time and passed with a C the second time. I put forth very little effort in solids and got a B+. Same with dynamics, very little effort, got an A.

I HATED controls with a firey passion. I loved fluids so much that I went and got a masters in fluid mechanics and aerodynamics, I thank my professor for helping me to get a love for the science. I unfortunately don't do anything related to that for a job. |

Because in high school it took literally zero effort for me to graduate with a 4.3 and 6 hours of AP credits. I took that mentality into engineering and got raped by statics.

Civil/Structural BS&MS
I didnt find any of the math/science pre-reqs hard. The hard stuff comes in the bulk of the core classes. |
