And my Nikon D50 finally kicked the bucket. 13962 photos, and 8 years of use. My mom told me to get my camera for the space shuttle thing going on this morning, tried to turn it on, but nothing turned on, and for some reason looking through the viewfinder it is all spotty and dark gray like if something burnt inside the camera, but there is a clear border around the grey frame.

That's a really low shutter count. For the consumer bodies, I think the shutters are rated at something like 75k actuations. 300k+ for the pro bodies.

Probably something on your circuit board fried.

It's definitely sketch.

Watching people stare at me as I drive through the slums in a BMW is very disconcerting

I'm thinking something fried in a big way, considering it looks like there is residue on the optics. Being a D50, it's something that needs to be replaced really, instead of fixed.

Oakland and Compton are both rapped about. I'd assume they are on the same level.

Yeah, the shutter has always worked fine. The light meter, focus, and flash electronics and mechanical have all started to show noticeably worse performance in the past year.
