Congrats!!

What will be the warranty on the new tank??

Could you please post more details? How did they diagnose the tank/pump issue, etc.

I'm thinking about taking mine to the dealer ....

I don't have any details as of yet. Car will hopefully be done tomorrow. I'm having them redo my wheels while its there. The only concern is you're gambling with the diagnostic fee ($198 at my local dealership). If the problem is not covered, you pay the fee; if it is covered, they waive it.

Got a call from my service advisor today. They claim now that its the charcoal canister based upon further diagnostics. They apparently went to the gas station and verified the problem, came back to the shop and disconnected the vent hose going into the canister and then the car filled no problem.

BUT, they're now claiming that its out of warranty and that my warranty is only a 7/70k. I told them otherwise, showing them the TIS which clearly states the 15/150k warranty which includes the entire tank ventilation system. BMWNA is going to get a call from me tomorrow. I'm not happy one bit and I'm outraged by the fact that I was told on Wednesday that it was a) covered and b) going to be replaced and returned today.

Presented with the TIS, the SA tried looking it up and couldn't access TIS from his computer. As of tonight, the dealership is "researching" it. I'm going to present the issue to BMWNA tomorrow. I'm not happy. At all.

Those guys are a bunch of ................. .

I wish you luck.

I'm realy thinking about trading this car for something else. Too much gambling with this 15y/150000 miles "warranty"

Just got a call from Trevor saying they've ordered the part and that it's now covered Should be done by Wednesday or Thursday.

Let's hope they mean it this time, unlike when they claimed it was covered and had a new tank on order then completely changed their story.

Could you post the canister part number from the invoice once you have the car back? This is good info. Thanks for all the updates.

Here are all the part numbers. I never realized it was a separate assembly. $500 for that canister

Wow! Pricey little carbon box! Any idea on the location of this unit? Under hood?

Based upon all the documents and illustrations I've seen, it sits in the rear of the car, somewhat close to the filler pipe. I have no idea how you'd access it...from behind the rear seats or under the car. My guess would be from underneath.

Got it home and it started pouring coolant. The clowns didn't tighten down my expansion tank cap Aside from that, my wheels look new and it runs fine. We'll have to wait and see if its fixed.

Nice! Mine has the problem too however it isn't as bad, only happens intermittently and I just look like the crazy guy trying to overflow his tank...

Sloppy! I've been by the Stevens Creek dealer for some parts--parts guy was pretty rude, almost as if I caught him on his break. Whatever... A little spilled coolant for a free tank of gas... You think they filled in 91?

Ya...and the problem is you don't know when it's actually full. So it's easy to overfill it then you look like a fool who doesn't know how to put gas in a car

Ya, lets not even get started on their parts prices either. 90 something dollars for a windshield washer pump that can be found online for under $20.

I'm pretty sure they did. I caught a glimpse of the receipts.

They're giving me a free gallon on Monday (of coolant, not gas lol). I lost over 1/4 gallon on my driveway. It was pooling in the tray until I got on the slope of the driveway.

I've ordered parts through them once or twice. They seemed nice enough. The only reason I don't use them is because its more out of the way for me. If I have any further problems though, guaranteed I'll be going to Mtn View or Fremont.
