2002 325XI Oil change info?

Was just wondering which oil I should use and which oil filter I should use. I'm also replacing the Air Filter so that also.

The Engine oil cap says "BMW recommends Castrol". If that is the case, which castrol would be the best?

I just buy the oil at the dealership and get a MANN oil and air filter online. Dealerships often give discounts if you ask and sometimes is cheaper than what you find at Walmart and etc.

Also, please search before creating threads.

Motul x-cess 5w-40 and Mann filters.

Change all the other fluids too- especially brake (ate superblue), coolant (BMW), and transfer case (redline d4 ATF).

any oil that meet the LL-01 spec will work pretty well. I run 5w40 liquimoly @ 5k intervals.

I use Mobil1 0W-40 from NAPA Autoparts and Mann filters. On sale it runs about $6.49 a qt. Buy 8 quarts so you have some to top off between changes.

I use Mann filters all the time, and I use either Amsoil European 5W40 or Lubro Moly 5w40, both of which are very good full synthetic oils and meet or exceed BMWs spec. I use Redline ATF and ATE Super Blue brake fluid and pre-mixed Prestone Coolant with a bottle of water wetter. At each oil change, a can of Liqui Moly Jectron and also a can of Liqui Moly Valve Clean are added (used to be called Lubro Moly Jectron Injector Cleaner and Lubro Moly Sauber Valve Cleaner). My oil and filter change interval is 5000 miles.

Haven't been able to research this much myself, so I just rely on the oil change kits online - the ones that use BMW 5w30.

It depends on your model. Facelift I think uses 7 qrts whereas pre-facelift is 6.5. Different oil pan capacity.

It takes as many quarts as it takes to fill it up properly. This is ~7-7.5qts. The Xi oil pan is bigger than the RWD models and it also depends on how much you can get out of the pan as well.
