20 inch rims

I was thinking that too... My friend has a 530i and he's getting new wheels, offered me a good price on his 20s. I just can't imagine how it would look. I guess I'll stick to my 18" idea. I just hate the fact that I can't afford wheels AND tires right now and I need new tires. My stock wheels have a small dent in them and they are a little scratched up... I guess once I can afford the 18s, I'll just have my current wheels as a back up set of shoes.

The E46 looks good with 18s max. Anything larger looks out of proportion, and has intrinsic handling penalties.

You guys hate too fast.

My roomate had some very very nice 20 inch wheels on his E90 that looked incredible. 10 inch wide in back with 8.5 fronts. A little rubbing over large bumps. They ride rough though. He loved the look, but hated the ride. They also slow the car down.

E90 is a completely different chassis.

I need a new trailing arm and front control arm bushings in addition to new tires and an alignment... Rims are a bit out of the budget at the moment

I'll agree and disagree... I love the way my 19's look! They don't look out of proportion at all. But at the same time they are a hassle. Gonna get a nice pair of 18" Arc-8's once my tires wear down a bit.

To the OP, get a nice set of 18's. Don't sacrifice performance or ride quality with 20's. And they'll look terrible.

I know, but my point was that 20s aren't necessarily a bad choice if you can stand the ride. They look good if you get the right ones (maybe not on an E46, I've never seen it). I'm sure they'll fit too with the right width/offset.

Unless your 19s are OE ZCP or CSL (euro) wheels (would have spent $5,000), then you are sacrificing ride and performance with your 19s relative to smaller stock 17s or light track wheels. (LTW5/K1)

OP: use your money towards heavy/extreme maintenance. forget wheels.

20's will look ridiculous. Save a little more money and go with 22's, 24's if your budget allows. You will regret going with 20's when you know you could have gone with at least 22's.

You asked if tires that you can't even afford to buy will fit on your car. They will not fit, but it doesn't matter because you can't buy them.

Why would you even ask if they fit when you cannot buy them? Do you guys think a Maserati would look good in my garage, it doesn't matter because I can't afford one. There is a house on the hill in a gated community that I like, but I work at Walmart, should I try to buy it?

Your car takes a tire that is for any practical purpose, 25 inches in diameter. If you have a 20 inch rim, then you get 2.5 inches in sidewall height. This would make the tire package for that rim to be something like 225/25x20, and a quick search of Tire Rack shows that this is not an available size. I also searched for 235/25 and 245/25. There is no available tire option in those sizes.

Oh I know I am sacrificing performance! haha. Thats why I said they were a hassle... Still love the way they look! But I am thinking about downsizing.

you know those caddys you see on huge rims? it will look just as crappy if not more!

The 18s I want are priced much more than what my friend is selling his 20s for. He's pretty much giving them to me. Sorry I didn't clarify

I really just want 18" style 71's. ugh... Money :/
