Where exactly did you find the LoJack unit if you actually found it? I had LoJack installed on my car when I bought it, then read that to continue service, the batteries in the car unit need to be replaced every so often at XXX outrageous cost and inspection by a LoJack tech. Honestly amazes me that I've never run into the unit with all of the 1201023101203 hours of work I've put into my own car, in the engine compartment, interior, underneath, never saw a thing.

but I want to find it! just cause.

Sweet! I can check my car to see if it's in the same spot, but their website claims they put it in "1 of 20 locations".

Funny how they claim it is a "one time fee with no monthly costs" but don't tell you that after x amount of years go by you need to go to them for an inspection on the unit and battery replacement if necessary. Last time I checked it was over $100 for that garbage. F that. No one is stealing my old ass car now, HA! Unless they want to hear Waa waaa waaa all day long.

No, it does not come standard. It is an aftermarket add-on. It could have been added at the dealership, or at a Lo-Jack dealer, but it was not added at the factory.

If your Lo-Jack subscription is paid up, then if your car is stolen, the Lo-Jack is a GPS tracking device that tells somebody where it is, and that person tells the cops.

If you plan on keeping the car, call lojak and update the information on it, and keep it active. If your car is stolen, you will be happy you kept it.

So they had a choice of 20 locations, and they choose to put it right next to the battery? Because thieves never go near batteries.

you would have to know what to look for. and unless you have time and know that the car has one it would be fine.
it's success is in its unknown the car has it and only activated by owner if needed. my brother had his Acura recovered twice in the late '90s with LoJack

Owner cannot activate LoJack. You need to call the PoPo's, tell them your car was stolen and it has LoJack, then the PoPo's activate the LoJack system they have, which apparently contacts the unit in your car and they can tell where the vehicle is.

Common common misconception. And after I learned of this, I wish I could have gotten my $600 back that I paid for the install!

Spreading the truth about LoJack after your 2 year warranty expires:

"Recommended Maintenance
The LoJack® Stolen Vehicle Recovery System was designed to
withstand the climate extremes and daily wear and tear associated
with on-highway vehicle operation. After your initial warranty expires
(two years from date of installation or date of purchase whichever is
later). LoJack® recommends an inspection of your LoJack® unit every
two years to ensure it is performing properly.
You can schedule this inspection by calling 1-800-4-LOJACK (1-800-
456-5225). The cost of the inspection is $99*. Please note that any
additional costs for repairs or replacement components are not included
in the inspection cost.
Required Maintenance
To comply with the terms of your LoJack® warranty and maintain
warranty protection, specific incidents and situations will require a
post-installation inspection of the LoJack® unit to ensure continued
functionality of the unit. Without an inspection in any of the following
scenarios, LoJack® cannot guarantee the integrity of the unit, and
any existing warranty is null and void. Depending on the situation,
there may be an inspection fee; for more information please contact
Customer Service at 1-800-4-LOJACK (1-800-456-5225).
In accordance with the warranty, your LoJack® unit requires an
inspection in any of the following circumstances:
• The vehicle was stolen and the LoJack® unit was activated as part
of the theft reporting and recovery process. LoJack® requires this
mandatory inspection to verify that the LoJack® unit installed in a
consumer’s car received no damage during the theft
• The vehicle was involved in or sustained damage in an accident.
• You install new automotive accessories or electrical equipment or
existing electrical equipment is repaired-including, but not limited
to-cellular phones, radios, built-in radar detectors, DVD players or
other similar audio/video devices.
• The vehicle has not been operated for more than a month.
• The vehicle experiences battery or electrical problems."
