My e46 ///m3 common issues.

Hi guys.

New to this forum. Im 2001 e46 m3 owner. My 5th bimmer. Got my car 2 month ago. Having few questions so decide to ask them all in one. Main problem clunk while shift gears. Seems like sound come from diff area. The gearbox is manual. One more common problem grinding noise when I turn car to the left. Not at the high speed. Sounds like right rear tire rubs fender. But its diff. I went to officials they told me to change diff fluid then test it again. Otherwise to find out special diff fluid in case if noise will appear again. I read in some other forums that it`s normal for ///M cars. Dunno what to do with . Waiting your opinions and advises.

As for the diff, i get a small rubbing sound when doing a tight turn first thing out of the parking stall. Nothing I'm really worried about but a lot of people have had success with adding a Friction Modifier to the OEM Fluid when changing their differential fluid.

Had the same issue, change the differential fluid with OEM!!!! Nothing else!!!

(3) bottles, and it's an EASY DIY!
2001 M3, LSB 6spd, purchased 6/09 with 25K miles.

Yup ^^^ I had that rub, and replaced my fluid with OEM last week. That stupid rubbing sound is gone. I also fitted a magnetic drain plug in the diff to collect the mini metal shavings in there, if there are any. I guess I'll find out next time!

The clunk is normal for many.

Add this to the diff:

If you just change diff fluid - it will probably continue to grind/whir at low speed turns.
