Do you have a link or more info on this? My 2001 330Ci has issues with the tail lights going off and on and the head light flicker.

i found out my e46 has this problem too, unfortunately i found this out as i put in the LAST of our TMS clears pkg. i don't feel like putting it all back to stock so i'm just going to see if they'll fix this with the TMS' in. i'll probably bring the original housing with me as my passenger ground has melted and pulled out of the connector. For now i just taped it up and left the light backing off. i called and my vin is included...i just didn't bother telling them about the lights. we'll see.

Clears shouldn't matter as long as the bulb housing is a factory part. My recall fix has been acting up. I keep getting a bulb out from driver rear.

The wife says they fixed the connectors with no issue, this was with TMS clears installed not the OE tails. Gonna scope it out when I get home.

I have an 01 330Ci and the dash warniing light (light out) is on/off intermittently - both rear lights show up. Seems to be assicociated as much with humidity as anything. My bulb boards and plug thereto all look good - no evidence of deterioration due to excess amperage etc on either male or femaile side. I nonetheless ran a ground wire directly from battery ground to the ground-circuit on both boards (L and R) , but to no vail. Inhdicatgor light still on / off unpredictably. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

(01 not covered in recall)

Hey all,

I had my recall work done in the winter. It didn't fix my tail lights tho which constantly have to be wiggled back into place because the bulb housing fixture and wire connector have giant burn holes in them (I'm assuming from the failed ground). Would you think the dealer should/would cover this and help get them fixed up? Before I could play with the wires and get them to light up appropriately, but no more. Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks
(and yes, I know the obvious answer is to replace it myself and save myself the hassle lol)

From what I see elsewhere on this site, your problem with an 02 should be covered in the recall.

I have the same issue. It doesn't affect the drivability of the car but it is certainly annoying. Does this recall still apply?

It should.

I bought a 2002 325i a little over 2 years ago. Sometime, in the past few months after reading about this recall, I took the car to the dealership to see if they'd cover it. Interestingly enough, the service advisor mentioned it to me without my asking. It turns out, the previous owner had already had the issue fixed, but it's nice to know BMW offered it anyway.

Granted, this was in Canada. I'm not sure about the US, but ideally they should still do it.

Did this recall expire? I thought about doing it myself, but am too busy. My terminals are burnt up on both sides and the intermittent issue is now almost constant. Do they replace the light socket also or does my tail light assembly already have the extra blade on it? Thanks.

I've been having intermittent read lamp problems for a few months. I finally pulled the lamp module (4 bulbs) out and found one of the pins inside the connector was burning. The plastic cable connect (8 pins if I remember right) was melted around the offending pin. I ohm'd it out and found it was the common (ground) pin. I'm surprise that the common pin was not larger, and did not use multiple pins to carry the current (maybe 4X what the rest of the pins carry). Anyway, it was a very old-fashion male/female connection (seen better in the 70's on my Ford Pinto). Not to knock the BMW, but really? Is this the best you can do for $52,000. No wonder there are so many electrical issues with German cars.

If you want to see if this is the problem, just open the trunk, unscrew the access to the lamp module (by hand... simple) and unplug the connector. Look closely for pins that look they they've been arching. The metal will be eaten away (like rust).

For those unfamiliar, a loose electrical connection can cause sparks, which cause heat. Depending on several factors (not likely in the case of the lamp module) a loose connect can cause a fire. I've seen that happen on aircraft.

I've got 3 taillight pins that aren't receiving power. The recall was performed. It's well grounded. I can't figure it out!!!

My Ride: 2002 325XI Sedan
I started having problem with left taillight and turn signal light a couple weeks ago on my 2002 325XI and found recall on the internet. I called BMW America and they confirmed that my model was on the recall. Called the dealer on Friday 12/13 and scheduled an appointment on Monday 12/16 and they added the ground. Not sure why some owners 2002 models were not on the recall unless the recall has been extended since 2011 to include more models.

Could have done the modification myself but I thought why not let them do it for free. They gave me a loaner to drive while they did the work and did a multi-point vehicle inspection that I didn't request and gave me a list of maintenance and repairs that were recommended complete with pictures. I will do the maintenance and repairs myself, but it is nice to have plan of action and what needs to be addressed.

All of this was free from the dealer. Cost of maintenance and repairs they recommended was very high, which I expected. So I will save the money and do it myself.

My Ride: BMW 325i 2005
I called the 800 number on the post last month and talked to a BMW representative. I told her about my issues with the tail light staying on when I turn off and lock my car, which doesn't happen all the time. It only happens on some occasions and I found out about it because my neighbors came knocking at my door on 3 occasions to tell me that my car lights are on. It was only my driver side tail lights though. The BMW representative I talked to said there is no such recall for my car year and model. I told her this cannot be right since I saw reports on the internet. She said there is nothing she can do about it, and went on to tell me about some other year and model car that has been recalled. What can I do if BMW denies that there was any recall for my 2005 BMW 325i?
