2012 AOPA Aviation Summit, Palm Springs, Oct 11-13

I know there are a lot of pilots on here. Is anyone else going to the summit next month? I just got my tickets and hotel room. Harrison Ford is the keynote speaker and Ariel Tweto is supposed to be there

Im looking for things to do after the summit. Anyone know any good restaurants or things to do in the evenings in palm springs?

I think there's around 10-15 pilots in the OT.

I wanted to go mostly to check out Kestrel Aircraft, the new Eclipse 550, and maybe see what Diamond's up to, but Palm Springs is such an awful place to be...

I think 3-4 is more accurate than 10-15.

Why are you excited about Ariel Tweto? That show is just turrible.

They put wayyyyyy tooo much drama in it, then show a fat girl in a bikini at the iditarod, and fill the rest of the show with yorkies running around.

I got the flyer, but seeing as how I am spending this weekend in Osh Kosh, I couldnt hack spending 2 weekends away from work. I bought the Sonex kit and am going to the Sonex Builder Workshop in WI so i can figure out how to read these 3 foot by 2 foot plans!

Anyone going to the Apple Valley air show/fly in? Its on the 13th, Ill probably be there! Will fly the skycatcher out from KSZP!!

It's just starting to cool down there. During the summer I agree with you 100%, but fall and winter there is no better place.

I'm not going to make it either.

Actually I am thinking to cancel my AOPA membership, I still fly professionally but the plans to buy an airplane are on hold. i think the have the greatest value for airplane owners not so much the pilots.

Oh I've been there in the middle of winter too. It would be one thing if it was a beautiful desert like Moab or Death Valley, but it isn't. The landscape is just ugly. Add to that the totally unsustainable artificial environment created to mask that landscape, then waste our water here up north putting golf courses where they really shouldn't be, and you end up with a place that does absolutely no good for the world. Though my opinion of places is largely shaped from what I see above, so while the setting of your sig looks nice down low, your perspective quickly changes as you go higher up.

I think I'll stay up here where it's naturally lush and green. It's a damn rare ocassion something can convince me to fly south.
