quick steering rack question

looking to swap a rack into my '01 boosted. I found a local shop that has an '06 rack from a 330 that has been reconditioned. They were talking about active steering though and not sure if it would work?

Will it work? I also understand some members had problems with the steering angle sensor? Did updating it work? thanks

no E46 came w/ active steering. only possible if that were an E90 (i'm pretty sure E90s came w/ active steering as an option) or E60

It won't bolt up. That's the problem.
'06 330 sedan is an e90 and that rack won't work

it is an E46, not E90, http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...69&hg=32&fg=10

I see the same part number?

The steering angle sensor are the same for all E46s. It's how the DSC module interprets the values that varies. To be 100% proper, one might want to recode the DSC module with steering angles from an 02+ E46. But for the most part the differences won't be large enough to be noticeable.

Has anyone actually verified this? E9x non-M racks aren't anything special, but the E9x M3 rack might be fun (12.5:1 ratio)

My Ride: Has no throttle
If it has active steering, it must be from an E90. It simply will not work, the electronics are not there. The whole steering column is different as well. In the event of a failure of the active steering component, there is a second shaft that runs from the steering shaft to the rack to provide normal non-active steering. Plus, active steering is integrated in with DSC.

If they're talking about speed-sensitive power steering, then that's a different story. All E46s have that.
