Is the car sport package, or regular suspension? How many miles are on it? What kind of tires are you running? What is the car used for?

Contrary to what most people will tell you, adjustable struts will not do anything for performance. They are adjustable to allow you to set the dampening to match the spring rates of the springs you run. If you plan on running them with stock springs, then you already have dampers that are adjusted perfectly for the stock springs.

If you plan on running aftermarket springs with higher rates, then it's advisable to get adjustable struts to tune them properly to the springs you're running. Aftermarket springs will do a few things:
1) Make the car react quicker to steering inputs, directional changes, ect.
2) Lower the car, which will give it a bit more camber and throw the alignment specs off.
3) Reduce body roll.
4) Reduce ride quality.
5) Make the car more apt to loose traction abruptly in the rain.

Notice I didn't say make the car grip harder. What performance reasons are you installing adjustable struts for? If you want the car to grip harder, get better tires and an alignment setup for performance. If you want the car to ride a little more aggressive and have more nimble reactions, springs and shocks will help with that.

oh and to tell you the truth, i have no idea if it is the sports suspension, or regular.
bought the car used from a dealership
(worst dealer on the planet imo)
told me car was fully serviced. and nothing had been done. had car 3 months and have had to drop 3k on fixing it
so as you can probably see, the only info i got (from them) was that its a 02 330i 5 speed on 18" m series wheels.
how can i tell on the suspension?

Hard to beat Koni Yellows if you're looking for adjustable struts.

Konis yellows are your best bet. The Tire Rack usually has the best prices.
