I think if you're a high school kid driving a BMW everyone will just make fun of you for driving your parents car. I'm 42 years old and people still shout out stupid things to me like: "Is that your daddies car?" and "Did your mommy buy that for you?"

You must live in an area full of losers. BMW's are everywhere around here and lately I've come to realize that I'm older than the average 3 series driver in my area, E9x's included and I'm only 24... kids around here are spoiled as hell. I used to live in WI by the way, I miss it like crazy!

I don't see why everyone is giving these kids so much trash? Their just young that doesn't mean they're not capable. I'm 19 in college with 2 jobs, yet when I was in highschool I used I buy junk cars on craigslist fix them and sell them for 2k. Sure enough I didn't drive a BMW back then but I was driving a 1983 camaro that sucked more money then my e46. I must have dropped well over 8k in that camaro, all with my own money. And as for contracts go, you don't need them if you have all of the cash in hand for a craigslist ad to check out a car. Instead of flaming on kids, even though I agree it's ridiculous to have a parent buy a BMW for a first car, stress on them maintenance. If they work for their money and it's all theirs going into the car and not mommy and daddy's bank account who cares. I know some 18 and 19 year olds that know way more about cars that people give them credit for because of their age.

There's like 10 other e46's at my school. Some kid has a clean ZHP coupe. I doubt he even knows what's up with that car.

You can't refer to people 2 years younger than you as "kids" that's the most ridiculous thing I've read in this thread. Yes, there are lots of mature teens out there who drive responsibly and take care of their cars, unfortuneatly for every one of those kids there are 20 or so other teens that are handed everything in life and have no responsibility or respect for the things they own. I was in high school once too "back then"

Got mine for e46 when I was 16, $3500, had a knock in the motor. Tightened a spark plug and bam! Works like a pro. Paid for all maintenance especially the new valve cover needed I couldn't do. -$500.. I mod it to this day. Eagle Eyes, HID's, tint, LED license plate lights, fogs, system, cold air intake, new hoses, and currently waiting on my Orion v2's! Love the nature of the cars. Beautifully made, sadly the previous owner didnt believe it will the nits as dits in the paint I finally had filled, but I want to ride this thing through college and buy a new one when I'm out! 167k miles! Just hand waxed it for the winter and I always wash it since I'm in the country area. Attachment 480455

for those "adults" out there the car is not technically mine, it was my fathers old car so my fathers name is on the title and he pays the insurance, so me "buying" the car from him basically gave me permission to drive it everyday

I WISH I'd had this car in high school.

Make sure you're doing your maintenance and not just doing angel eyes and LED's and HID's and tint, gentlemen.

It doesn't matter whether you worked for $3 an hour mucking horse stalls to buy your e46 or whether your daddy left one in your stocking Christmas morning - you're an e46 owner with all the same rights and responsibilities as the rest of us. Nobody is better that anybody else. In fact, I have great respect for anybody taking on the work of maintaining their car as a high schooler. I probably couldn't at that age.

Thank you! Someone who gets it!
My car is mine if my grades are good and I have a job, if not, it's gone. Since labor is so expensive, I try to do everything I can by myself, and all my money goes to parts, so I have yet to do anything cosmetic such as angel eyes yet
