Quick newbie question.

Quick question, but What's the clicky thing at the end of the accelerator? I'm guessing it might be a button or something?
Also, [DO NOT POST HERE SNA77.] I have manual ac controls, is it possible for me to grab a automatic CC from a local yard, or dealer and just plug it in? Also, Will all the features work? Has anyone here tried it?

1. That is just a metal clip inside the pedal that marks the kickdown point. That's the point at which the engine will downshift I believe.

2. No. The conversion from manual to auto will take $400 parts and several hours.

Search please. That is quicker than asking.

aahmed, the clicky thing is just a clicker that makes noise. it serves absolutely no function and is in no way wired to the car. the car does not respond to the click.

Thanks everyone, and merc, It's a '01. And has manual ac control, and isn't 400 a bit steep?

I'm confused as why you wouldn't want my input. I know the answer to your question, AND have done this retrofit.

No, all the features will not work. You need to retrofit the brains of the unit in order to make auto controls work. The job requires taking out your dashboard and is 6 hors of labor for a BMW tech:

Here are the OEM install instructions with part #s:

Mango has a thread in which he took apart a automatic car's pedal.

yup! it's pretty funny how up until that everybody (including myself) called it a kickdown switch and thought it functioned w/ the DME to electronically trigger a downshift. That particular point in pedal operation *may* trigger a downshift, but not the actual clicking of the clicker. I should find a use for it like a dog clicker. maybe use it to train beagles.

Absolutely FALSE. the first USA 325i's had manual Climate controls standard equipment but automatic climate control as part of the Premium Package. later in 2001 production they made it standard equipment.
