My SX260HS was $299 and it takes fantastic pictures on average. Digic 5 20x optical zoom Manual controls Fits in Pocket It is no DSLR with a bag full of lenses, but it is 1000x better than leaving your camera at home. I can not wait for the G15! My SX260HS takes better pics than my G9 due to evolution; so it will be exciting to see what a compact at twice the price (and f1.8-2.8 lens) will bring.

You've managed to get me excited about this thing, which is tough since I'm not one to get too excited about cameras
![]() Any recommendations where to buy online at less than MSRP? I have Amazon giftcards which would cover it at full price, so likely going to take that route if there isn't anywhere to get it cheaper.

I prefer Best Buy because they are usually one of the cheapest anyway (when on sale) and you can get a warranty against dropping and damage starting at $29. It is hard to find any new Canon model for more than 10% off. There is not much margin in them. Amazon (amazon as seller only) or B&H are the only two I buy camera stuff from online. You may really like that SX50. 50x optical zoom is a new record. It also has the widest lens to start with (24mm) so it is really a walk around all-in-one. I am pretty sure that it also has autofocus during HD recording which also allows you to zoom in and out during recording.

In terms of quality, which lens (SX50 or G15) is going to give me better results in varying conditions (low light included)? Everyone seems to be nuts about the lens on the G15, but I don't hear the same on the SX50 except for the super long zoom. While the zoom is a cool feature, I probably wouldn't use it enough to be the deciding factor between the two. I like the auto focus and zoom during HD video on the SX50, but I'm not sure if I'll think that camera is too big on a daily basis.
I need a camera I take out quickly, not monkey with a bunch of buttons, and take a picture fast while my kids are doing something *now* before they move on. They are 1 and 2 yrs old, so I usually only get one shot (and miss!).

It should do autofocus in video also. F1.8 - f2.8 is amazing for a small camera. Your old kit lens was f3.5 - f5.6. The digic 5 and hs system and 12800 ISO makes it extremely effective in low light. You can't even buy an adjustable f1.8 lens for DSLR seperately. They only come in prime lenses. A Canon f2.8 lens 18-55 is $1000. Of course they are not the same, but still..... Also, low number f gives you most bokeh for that professional look. Google f1.8 bokeh images.

Damn, I'm torn... I've had an SX30 IS since launch, and while I love it, there are some things that really bother me about it, specifically, no RAW and very slow continuous shooting. I don't think I've actually taken any useful pics at max zoom, either... but with only 3000 clicks on it, I'm also probably using it frequently enough to really get a feel for it. I wonder what I can get for it if I wanted to get a G15...

$200-$300 upgrade and its yours! ![]() PS - the SX50 has both RAW and faster cont shooting and the 10fps blast also (as well as slow motion, 1080p, etc.) if you need the zoom and/or size.

The Nikon V1/J1 are pretty impressive. I still wish they'd bring 24mm at the wide end to the G series.
They got the size down a bit which is a plus. I have been waiting to replace my A650 IS that was stolen. With my iPhone and wife's S95, I haven't needed another camera though. |

I have a few years old Canon SX model that works great and I have gotten some great shots with it. I was looking at this G15 myself as an upgrade. It's nice to not have to carry around the DSLR and still get good shots at like a car show or something or birthday party.

This thing is flat out incredible!!! I'll have to post up some pics, but this is the best P&S camera I've ever owned...no comparison at all.
Last weekend I took a bunch of pictures of the family from a scenic outlook with the sun directly behind them...pictures came out just fine with none of the darkness that I would have had with any of the other cameras I've owned. This was in full auto mode so that I didn't ruin the shot I'm pretty amazed at what a good job this thing can do in auto. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in a high end P&S or even an entry level DSLR who isn't planning to learn the ins and outs of photography. This is worth every penny. Pictures to come.

Glad you like it. FYI, it is dramatically smaller and lighter than previous models. I just picked one up about an hour ago. The SX50 looks quite nice also for what it is. If that sucker was f1.8 - f2.8 at even $699, I would have one. Can't have it all. Good grief. Now I gotta sell some stuff... s40, s50, s60, s70 with underwater case, s80, s95 g11, g15 elph 300hs, (2) sd780is, sx260hs 60D, 18-55mm, 50mm, 15-85mm, 70-300mm ex270II, ex430II

I just picked up a Samsung refurbed TL500 and I am happy. They have a new model out now around $400 on ebay $500 retail. I picked up my refurb for $250.
Swivel LCD is key for my needs. The TL500 also has a 24mm F1.8 lens. The new EX2 is 24mm at F1.4! Last edited by alkemyst; 11-11-2012 at 03:35 PM. |
