First sand it down with 40 grit, thats really goin to get to the metal fast, then hit it with 80 grit, after hit it wit 180 grit to smooth it out, sand in circles after wet it down in the sun leave it everytime you see dry mist it with a water from a spray bottle. jUST Remember your hood is going to feel real ruff n your going to get a lot of rust dust so you'll have to wipe it down everyday before you take off. So good luck hope you get what you want! BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR BECAUSE YOU MIGHT JUST GET IT!
it's going to take a long time to get the overall rust effect with normal water. You'll want it soaked in salt water/mild acid.

Alright...enough is enough. Can we make a separate sub-forum for the guys who are hell bent on ruining their cars, and the rest of us can continue on with our lives until these ridiculous fads pass by?

MOVE TO THE NORTHEAST!!! There's plenty of salt here. In fact, you can rust the whole FN car in 1 season!

+1, I was thinking the same thing; also, why stop there...
rust up under the hood, and
stain your carpets and floor mats,
maybe some grafetti on the seats, and why not a couple good gouges in the dash.
oh almost forgot... slash some coffee on the head liner (DD would world but you will get much superior results with chuck full of nuts)!!!

Rusting hoods only look good on old cars, like e30s for example. An e46 still looks way too modern to pull it off, and I personally don't think it'll ever be able to.

Or maybe it can, with the right color and mods.

Hater!

Cars with rusty body panels look so clean! And the owners of these cars are pure geniuses who are ahead of their time. They're so unique. It's art, and if you don't get it, you're a hater! Haters gonna hate.
