Yes same. It's in the process of changing into 1st, so at the point it can't "ride" the clutch at all. It needs to be in first already for that to engage I'm pretty sure. That feature is specifically for hill starts and yes it's in the manual.

Of course you realise you can just brake with the left foot and drive off in extreme situations? The hill start feature has limited holding ability when it rides the clutch for you. Basically like a hill start in a manual except you don't bother with the handbrake.

I placed a deposit on mine before I drove it since I had to fly cross country to test drive it. That way nobody can buy it before I have a look at it. Kinda like reserving he car. But I had an agreement with the seller that if there was a major problem with the car that was not advertised then I can get my deposit back

I've bought my last 3 cars interstate including the M3 and a Porsche 911 Turbo none of which I got to test drive before buying but I did get all cars thoroughly checked before hand by experts who knew the cars inside and out (BMW & Porsche etc).
The Porsche I didn't drive until it arrived in Brissy from WA .. As for the SMG I had a great rapport with the seller and it only had 48k on the clock, that along with BMW's stamp of approval sealed the deal .. I'm still getting used to the SMG as it's only been a week but so far I love it ! I've always been a manual car guy so this car is something new, I've gone for the clutch pedal a few times only to find it GONE ! I did the reset trick too and found that smoothed out the change heaps ... So my 2c would be JUST DO IT ! B
