it won't even fill on the slowest setting anymore. Seriously, wth. As much as I didn't want to I had to take it to SCBMW and make another appointment since they're the ones that worked on it. It's worse now than ever

I thought that something similar had happened to me recently but then realized if just already filled up and forgotten about it.

How does this happen, buildup of vapors? Will it work if you hold the rubber sleeve on the gas pump nozzle back while trying to pump?

No, but no matter how slowly I had it filling, it was triggering the shut off. And an e46 325i had just used that same pump :/

Typically the ventilation canister has a block in it, usually caused by liquid gas. As your pumping, the gas flowing in displaces air which would typically flow out through the ventilation canister. When there's an obstruction in the canister though, it causes an airlock that fools the pump into thinking that the tank is full.

When the service advisor looked up, you could see that he died a little bit inside as he realized it was me...again. His face went a bit pale
