How about a trouble free 215,000 miles from a 2001 330i? ZF Step trans has been bullet proof with only one fluid change at 120,000. I drive 100 miles per day total round trip to work at highway speed. The car seems to love it!

1999 323i. Lost reverse at 192k miles. Now I have 3 pedals and I never worry about reverse anymore.

So true about never know when. Mine decided to crap out about 4k miles ago but in a not so bad way I guess. I'm still driving it. The check engine light is on with the now infamous P-0741 code. The car drives OK - the tranny is OK but the seal on the torque converter is evidently moved in such a way that it's not sealing properly. At least that's what the TSB related to this code says happens in some cases.

I have 146k miles on the car. The tranny still works. My gas mileage is suffering a little because the torque conveter won't lock up completely because of the leak in the seal.

But not to worry - I'll be replacing the auto with a nearly new ZHP 6MT in about 2 months, when the weather decides to cooperate.
