Fuel filler door

I've searched on here about the fuel door actuator. My fuel door doesn't shut when I try to push it to close. I have to hold it in so when I lock my car the pin holds it shut. Now whenever I unlock my car the fuel door just pops open. Any one have any ideas as to what this is? I can post pics if anyone wants to see what Im trying to explain.

Pics would help, because your explanation is a little confusing.

Classic BMW issue. Caused by the squiggly wire spring next to the hinge. That spring is the only thing that holds the door shut; the actuator just secures it from being pulled by a thief. Over time the spring weakens, at which point you just go the dealer (they're less than a dollar) and you're back in business.

Just a worn out spring, really cheap from dealer and really easy to replace.

The locking pin works just fine, whenever I lock the car. But I have to push it and hold it so the pin locks it.
