I think you got ripped off by your dealer. The real Honda extended warranty has either a $0 deductible or a $100 one.

As for CarMax, I haven't been impressed with their pricing. Either the price they offer for your car (been lower than trade in offers from dealers in my experience) or the price they're selling the car for.
No, I purchased a CPO which the warranty had expired. When I bought the CPO, I also got a extended warranty which is offered by Honda but through a 3rd party. You can negotiate on the warranty pricing before signing. Honda works on the car and bills the company. Kind of like how car insurance works. You take it to any shop for repairs, insurance agree and authorize the price and work. They get billed.

Carmax offering these warranty is just like any other company. They're all the same in a way.

BTW, I did purchased my White m3 from Carmax. Was kind of priced high, 2-3k from other dealers, but they had the combo I was looking for. So I didn't care.

http://www.thewarrantygroup.com/prod...ies/index.html This is the 3rd party extended warranty Honda offer.

Carmax might use the same one.

exactly, they were a part of AON, until they were sold off.

GM, you said you paid $3k for the warranty, and got $2k worth of repair. sounds like you are still $1k in the red?

I had a truck shipped from Miami to Orlando for free. It was 5k less than local.

It's all about supply and demand.

Perhaps on average they are higher, but they are also higher in quality with a return policy.

You can get an outstanding deal with just a little research and no bs arguing.
No absolutely right...for example:

Looking for an e46 m3. See carmax has an 04 TiAg smg m3 with 110k miles. Go to test drive it and while checking under the hood, engine was covered it dirt, closed thr hood and both kidney grilles fell out. Looked under car and could see it was a northern car with corrosion on some places. Interior was 6/10. Leather was hard. Scratches on trim and center console. When i drove the car there was a knock in the rear end (smg when driven hard eats subframe/diff bushings) so thats a 2k repair easily if subframe bushings were shot and i found out it was beat on. Car was a POS and they were asking 23k for it. I offered 16k (which it was worth if that) and they said price is non negotiable. Told them to go fvck themselves. They say their cars go through inspections etc. BS. They even showed me other m3's throughout the country and they were all overpriced by 5k...

You can't talk logic to anyone who is a chronic CarMax customer; they think it's some hidden secret in the car buying world. I have a friend who has purchased nearly double the cars as the OP from CarMax. Condition is completely oblivious to them as well as the inflated pricing.

No. I paid like 1500 for 5 years. The 3000 was just an example for something like a Porsche.

Congrats. You found a pos at used car dealership with 110k miles. I have never even owned a car with that many miles let alone bought one.

Really? Are we really talking about 9 year old cars here? Well I am not.

I am talking about cars that are a few years old, still under factory warranty half the time, and a company that has treated me very well at three different locations providing multiple different services.

As far as challenge, ok.

BMW 2009 or 2010 with low miles, still under warranty, one owner, from a dealership with a return policy. Go.

I will start. I have checked no other sites but I am confident you will not find many DRAMATICALLY cheaper.

2009 335i sport and premium packages 38k miles $28k

2010 335i black on black 18k miles $31k.

To each their own. In never said they were the only good dealership and I never said that every one of the cars was the best deal possible. I said each dealership sets their prices and great deals can be found.

I stand by that statement.

Just want to share my experience with Carmax. 3 years ago bot wifey 05 Sequoia with 45k on it from CM for a comparable price at Toyota dealers. Added the 3yr Maxcare plan and never used it. Now have 125k miles w/o a problem. Know on wood.

Now onto my 2004 325i with sports and premium packages. I bot with 54k on it 3 years ago for $17k including the 3yr Maxcare plan. Car was still under cpo for a couple of months as I was the 3rd owner. Had tons of stuffed fixed under CPO (I paid the BMW dealer to do a full inspection) and CM picked up the $50 as otherwise they would've had to fix that stuff. A year or so later I had some transmission (damn auto) issues along with a leaking valve cover gasket, a failed windshield washer pump and some other things fixed. I wanted the BMW dealer to fix them so I figured it would be just $75....well Maxcare covered labor up $125 and the going rate at my dealer was $150 so I had to come out of pocket for the difference. The total bill was over $2k and I owed like $200 for the difference. It was worth it as my dealer has a great service department and even have me a loaner for a couple of days.

The repairs to my 325 were just some of the normal stuff you read on this board so overall my experience with carmax has been fine.

Let me add this as far as pricing....

I just got an offer on my truck from carmax for 6000 less than I bought it from carmax 4 years ago.

Yes, it cost me 1500 per year to buy a truck that was 1 year old with 17k miles on when I bought it.

Yes, I do love carmax.

To each their own. These are just my experiences.

I don't honestly know how you could expect more from any dealer.

They have 35,000 cars available at any time, they will ship from anywhere in the country to you. Just so you know...

Right now they have 1,171 BMWs from $12k to $82k.

OP, good/accurate assessments. The in-laws love carmax for everything you have pointed out. Carmax is so on top of their game that they were the only dealership (used and new) to make a profit during the recent recession.

See above.

Today, the offered more for my truck than kbb private sale value.

6000 less than I bought it for 4 years ago from them.

How could all their prices be so bad?
And how could their buy offers also be so bad.

Tell me the last time you sold a car for 6000 less 4 years later.

To each their own. They work for me.

Ps ... Exactly the same deal for 330. They bought it for more than I could sell it for in autotrader.

Nice thread thanks for starting. I'm waiting on the insurance company to give me an answer on my car. I was looking at Carmax because my ex-sister in-law works for them and possibly can get a discount. I really haven't seen anything in stock except a few cars in Cali. I don't want to have them shipped to DMV sight unseen. Plus there are only 122 cars that are manual, 26 with Sports package. I want to get another bimmer because my injuries could have been a lot worse if I was driving in another car. This is going to be hard ugh

but thanks for sharing your experience.

Of course, everyone has different experiences, but I have actually bought from them 5 times and getting ready to sell them my 5th car, so my opinion is formed from actually dealing with them.

Often, all the features or options are not listed! You can get a lot for free. Also their inventory literally changes every day.

As far as shipping a car cross country, its is an amazingly painless process.

First you get like 30 pictures to look at plus the vin number and an auto history report. Of course you could use the vin to do your own carfax or dealership research.

After you decide you want it, you create a list of questions about the car. What is the treadwear? What brand and model of tires? Curb rash, etc. Your salesman (who gets paid the same regardless of what you buy for $5k to $95k) contacts the location where the car is for a "walk around." A buyer or inventory person at that location answer all the questions.

If you still want it, you pay NOTHING and sign NOTHING except for the delivery fee ($0-$899 I think) The car shows up at the dealership for your review. If you like it, you buy it like normal. (I think they hold it in your name for 2-3 days before you look at it.) If you just don't like it, you pay nothing else (and lose your shipping fee.) If something is not correct or a question was answered wrong, you pay nothing and get your shipping fees refunded.

The whole idea, is to find a car that is thousands cheaper than local or the exact combo you want so the shipping fees don't matter much.

I had my 330ci shipped from Indy to Florida in 3 days. My suburban came from Miami (for FREE) in 2 days and had 4x4 which was not advertised (I saw it in the pictures.) They realized the mistake and did NOT raise the price ($3000 upgrade.) He said if I did not buy it, they would raise the price before selling it to someone else.

No fighting, no excuses, no BS.

OF COURSE, JME AND JMO.

PS - the truck that I am selling them for $6,000 less than I bought it from them for 4 years ago, was filthy dirty and in for service when they appraised it. I talked to the buyer, promised to remove the stereo wiring, remove the nav, etc. etc. etc. I even have missing interior parts that have to be replaced by them. I never bought tires or brake pads or anything except battery that was not under warranty.

The only car I have not sold them was my M5. My M5 that I bought CPO from a BMW dealership for $40,000 that was nothing but problems. CarMax did not offer me enough because they explained a long list of everything that was wrong with it. Yes, CPO from BMW dealership. Then I took it to two other dealers who offered me even LESS. Turns out the CPO was wrecked, etc. The only reason I did not sell it to CarMax is because I traded it in with an suv on a brand new Lexus GS350 at the Lexus dealership.

Anyway, I will always give CarMax the first shot.

PPS - as far as pricing, they have new dealerships too in different areas and they are cheaper too. I almost bought a brand new Nissan 370z for $29,999 + tax out the door. ADVERTISED. No fine print.

As stated a million times, JMO.

I know it sounds like I work for them or something. The truth is, it is so hard to find good companies that when I do, I go a little overboard telling others.

See my thread on Maui Jim, Weber Grills, etc.
