Anyone near Paterson, NJ 07513 and know a good PPI mech?
I need a good mech in Paterson, NJ 07513 who can go check out some cars for me... if you know of anyone that you or someone you know can vouch for and does a thorough job, including compression and getting to the undercarriage etc., let me know, thanks!

I'm about 20 minutes away from Paterson, I have checked out other e46s, this is what I check for
Subframe Brakes Rust Dents Oil Coolant levels Oil leaks (gaskets) Check for codes Check the paint for orange peel (respray) Check car to see if its been played with (I would suggest buying a car that is stock than one that is modded) I'm probably forgetting a couple things but just let me know, I wouldn't mind helping out a fellow fanatic |

I'll probably save everyone the trouble... someone else near there who is very familiar with the shops in the area said its a pretty bad area and when in doubt, dont purchase from there.... this added to the fact that I already was skeptic about this one... a 2004 ZHP for $6990, so I called the guy and he said it was in an accident, saw the carfax, it was salvaged, and repaired, so for a 55k mileage, it must have been heckuva crash huh? I was hoping to get it, put like 2-3k in it and be ok... but it seems I may have to rebuild like half the car from the looks of the cheap aftermarket addons. Check it out:

I answered your question on bimmerforums and told you the history of the car before you even told me what dealer was selling it, the model year anything... They are mostly grey market cars and rebuildable/rebuilt hackjob cars flipped for a quick buck in this area. You are too far away to buy this car comfortable unless you are looking to piss 6k+transport costs down the drain.
