Why has this thread not been bumped?

Android boys unhappy that it doesn't have LTE? What's up? I think the Nexus 4 looks pretty cool. I like the keyboard features and various swipe shortcuts. I don't like the slightly XP like home screen.

I'm going to buy a Nexus 7 today and see what you guys are talking about as you piss all over the iPad and iPhone. And yes I have had an iPad- sold it to get a Mini but I'll wait til' next year. Or maybe I'll like the Nexus and keep it.

The BIGGEST thing for me is now Kno and Coursemart are on the Nexus- which is very big IMO. They have tons of textbooks.

I'm considering upgrading to an iPhone 5 to sell and use the money to buy the Nexus 4.

Could you list the reasons why? Is it because of the screen size?

I like the size. It's no phablet, but it's a bit bigger. Kind of like when they increase legroom by a couple of inches. It's not significant, but it feels more comfortable, if that makes any sense.

Why else? It's got great specs. It looks good. I like the fact that it's completely unlocked and very capable, even stock. It has capability for wireless charging, even though I'm not sure if the 'orb' will be priced competitively enough. It's got a few neat OS tricks, too, such as the lockscreen access to widgets, one-touch photo options right from the screen, "photo sphere", unlimited cloud storage for pictures, etc.

Most of all, it's $299/$349 without a contract. If I pay $199 for an iPhone upgrade and sell it in the range of $700-1000, that's a badass phone AND a profit for me. Seems like a no brainer.

Okay, I can respect that. I like the concept of Nexus and I don't. Clearly they are the most solid of the Android devices, but at the same time they aren't as mmm, packed with shiny features as say, the S3. I did not realize that it will be that cheap, that's great!

LTE's omission is annoying though not totally a deal breaker. Google seems to have pulled an Apple in that regard (wanting control), and I don't think they're better for it.

Which features does the S3 have that this one doesn't?

I've looked at the S3, but it didn't excite me at all. I still think I prefer the HTC One X to it. This phone, though, seems to be on the cutting edge, save for the lack of LTE. I've heard that the HSPA+ on it is pretty speedy, depending on the provider. Right now, my iPhone 4 is only 3G and even that's enough most of the time.

Yeah, I think it's a calculated decision. They decided to cover more ground and sell more phones at a lower price and better performance than try to check absolutely every item on the list. For some it works, for some it doesn't. That's the beauty of choice.

I wish it had more storage available. I know they're really pushing the cloud but it isn't always available. When Isaac hit here (New Orleans) and the power went out I still had 5000+ songs to keep me company, and there was only a weak, no network cell signal. The cloud can't help me there.

I understand the reasoning behind not having LTE, it's just ironic- the amount
of hate the iPhone got for a couple years for omitting LTE and now this. It just puts it in perspective.

HSPA+ is a huge step up from the 4's 3G in my experience.

I don't know about specific features because I don't like the S3, but flip to answer or hang up or mute and all that kinda crap that S3 users love.

Word on the street says T-Mo will be rolling out LTE in December. HSPA is def legit... dramatic improvement from 3G.

I love my S2, quality just feels better than the S3. Not sure which flavor of Nexus I'll get but... I will certainly wait for the Samsung edition.

Of course. Things get a bit heated when no one wants to admit their blind admiration/hatred isn't justified.

I wouldn't know. Must be Samsung specific.

I'm looking forward to the new features in 4.2, hopefully the source code will hit the AOSP servers when the new stuff goes on sale in a couple weeks.

Engadget has a hands on look at the Nexus 10 and they seem to like it. http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/29/n...ands-on-video/

I'm sure more detailed reviews will soon follow.

I like the nexus 4, I just wish that kind of deal was available with CDMA (LTE) networks . Google gave an explanation for their decision: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Nex...one,18804.html

I can't wait until there isn't a distinction between GSM and CDMA anymore, and everything is just varying frequencies of LTE depending on carrier.

It isn't exactly an apples to apples comparison, given that the 16gb nexus 4 costs half of what the 4s did on it's debut and it comes unlocked. I'm surprised the nexus 4 is as stacked as it is, given the cost. For a $299 starting price, I would have expected more compromise than just lack of LTE. My gf just bought a used Nexus S off ebay and that was $165, for a phone that's ~2 years old I think.

Same reason, I don't like the iphone, no removable microsd. I just purchased the S3 after reading about the new Nexus, not for me. I got the S3 for $107 shipped including tax. If I don't like it, I have the current Nexus to fall back on. Going back to Verizon's LTE since my current employer pays for it. I'm not a Verizon fan when it comes to pricing. I think T-mobile has the right idea.

The unlocked vs not price difference will not matter to the vast majority. It is very cool but also irrelevant for many. That's the truth.

Those who understand why it is helpful, the enlightened ones, can certainly take advantage of it!

I do understand their reasoning [for not including LTE] and I'm not attacking it, but I don't believe your justification for the reason why the iPhone was criticized for the same thing is valid.

Price is not the reason this thing doesn't have LTE, carrier certification is. Google has zero leverage with carriers after being their bitch for 3 years straight. Starting to look like they might have just been better off and more profitable with 2 apps on the iPhone's home screen.

exactly. my phone costs $99 and has both radios. and if you keep it on CDMA instead of LTE when you dont need it, the phone easily lasts 2 days

I judge things based on their price, and in terms of feature per dollar, the Nexus 4 is leaps and bounds above any other new phone on the market, even without LTE. Not because it's a better phone (it's not), but because it's almost as good for $350 less.

If the iPhone 4S had been $349 unsubsidized on its launch, it wouldn't have been regarded by near as many people as a disappointment. All the sudden it becomes the best deal around. Things change when the price is so dramatically lower than the norm.
