Simple Problem, need springs, part number..
Hi,
I have a simple problem and hopefully a simple fix. I just pick up a used 2002 325ci and the two small retractable plastic pieces that are just in front of the top lid are missing the springs that pull them back into position. Make sense? Anyone know the part number of these spring and where I could buy them. Thx, Bob |

51437147719 and 51437147720 for left and right, respectively. Good prices at www.thebmwpartstore.com, but they are only $8 each retail.
Go to www.realoem.com to find parts in the future.

I'd double check those part numbers. The spring and rod assembly changed. Early model convertibles are different.
There should be a plastic rod as well that sits inside the spring. You likely need items 13 and 14. The spring and rods are identical on both sides in pre 2003 convertibles: 51438163692 Spring 51437029018 Rod http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...87&hg=51&fg=50

Thanks for the catch. I automatically search realoem for my car, which is a 2004.

My brackets broke so the springs pull out. Just rigged up a rubber band with a zip tie and it works fine.

Thanks - it took me something like 3 days to find those. I was looking in the Convertible Top instead of the Door sections of the parts diagrams.
Are they easy to install? I haven't had much of a chance to get under the cover with a flashlight. |

They can be installed easily with the top down on a pre 2003
If your slider is broken (where my thumb is attached) you will need to remove the back seat and take the side panels off to get a new slider installed. And yes, the sliders are different for pre 2003's as well.

alright. It's $20. I'm buying them and I'll document the repair. I'm relatively handy. I changed out a light switch once. . . . |

JDberger - how did this go?
JD - I have the same issue except both of mine are missing. So I don't have a good one to reference. Please let me know if you are going to document the process so I can see what it's supposed to look like.
Thanks dtsurfcat |

Shipping from ECS was amazingly slow. I guess I'm just used to Amazon.
I'll to the repair Sunday. I'll take pictures. Assuming I'm able to put everything back together without any extra parts remaining, I'll post the pics that night. Last edited by jdberger; 11-14-2012 at 01:47 PM. |

I gave it a shot on Sunday, but I was stumped. I guess I'll have to follow instructions.
