All the time. When I can't find something on the market I make it. Most of the time it happens with furniture.
My car probably doesn't count as "from scratch" but it was the same situation.

Now that's cool. I hadn't seen it. The only thing I was aware of was something like the sonicare toothbrush charger. I wonder what the range is though. I don't mind plugging things in with 95%+ efficiency if I'm going to have to stay within 6 feet of a source anyway. Also would the sources waste energy even if nothing is being used?

Pretty much anything out of carbon fiber/composite.


It all started with this guy, specifically the thing hanging off the front, I built that all from scratch, minus the injection molded elbows, did all that around 15. Now it's become my job to design and build far, far fancier versions. And hopefully soon I'll have my new compact, affordable, and versatile version for all you gopro owners.

The experiment was done with a distance of 300 feet. I will dig up some pictures. Yes, it is for real. And, the MIT wireless energy is very inefficient. They can claim nothing.

Also, yes, if the source is on, it is wasting electricity. It is resonant transfer, that primary coil has to continually be on and resonating for it to put out an electric field.
