I want a new navy pinstriped suit for some events.
SF seems to whine a lot about MTM stuff (Indochino, etc), any experience on here? Then again, SF IS the same place that said go OTR or go bespoke...I just don't understand it (especially with the varying of price/fit from Macy's to JAB to Nordstroms etc) Anyways I wanna get away under $700. JAB is a thought, as is Indochino - just not sure which direction to go Last edited by yousharenow; 11-06-2012 at 08:48 PM. |

went to a JAB today. the suits fit only ok, but i wasnt blown away. this is getting frustrating; i wish i could just put on a suit and love it and be done with this bs.
quick question: am i just blind, or do dark navy suits look like a dull black?

put a navy suit against a black suit and you will see the difference
but yeah a dark navy suit can be mistaken for black in less than optimal lighting

A suit requires a fair amount of labor. Materials etc. It may be that you need to spend more to find what you want in a reasonable amount of time.
Youshare, i am getting an MTM from Mr. Ned for about $1k. $700 is brooks brothers on sale and they have modern cuts.

Personally I'm a fan of Charcoal and black, but I want a dark Navy one. I like BB, but I'm looking for a modern fit, maybe a 3 piece, dunno yet.
Need to have it on and fitted 12/15 so I might just go to Nordstroms or JAB or something to see how they fit. Edit: Holly hell I need to look on the BB sale page more. Good lawd Last edited by yousharenow; 11-06-2012 at 09:03 PM. |

speaking of navy pinstripe
i wonder if people wear a non-matching vest with a pinstripe suit the BB milano pinstripe's button stance is a little too high ... so i think it would look better if i could wear it as a 3-piece with the jacket open any input? this tie will not hold a good dimple

I was always told you only need a black suit for a funeral, or if you're a mortician, lol.

Im baked in a hoodie watching elections. ![]() I like how sharp the monochrome scheme is. My entire apt is monochromatic though so maybe I just like that style and the contrast. Blue blazers look fratty IMO Last edited by yousharenow; 11-06-2012 at 09:20 PM. |

you don't even need one for a funeral. just a solid black tie could be considered proper etiquette with a gray/charcoal suit.

I agree, it was just a saying I had heard from my grandfather that was mostly tongue in cheek.

Anyone rock the french cuffs? I always see cool cufflinks but I would need a suit or two first. I have a couple dress shirts that came with their own cufflinks, and I have a few cufflinks that were handed down to me from grandpa and from the last time I owned a tux (CK) which doesn't fit me anymore.

You guys dress much more old school, If you look on TV at some of the well dressed guys (mainly over at CNN) you see a black suit or two. Everyone says this but when I rock the black suit, I get nothing but compliments. Last edited by yousharenow; 11-07-2012 at 08:38 AM. |

A few years back I was asked to be best man in the wedding of my then best friend. He had a "brilliant" idea that everyone could buy a black suit for the wedding instead of renting tuxes so that they had something to keep, rather than spending $100 on a rental.
I wasn't really in a position to say no, unfortunately, so I ended up buying a $350 Jos A Bank black suit. I friggin hate it and the fact that he put me in a position where I couldn't say no. I guess the good news is that I've had plenty of occasion to wear it since I've probably attended at least 6 funerals since I bought it. The only time I wear it otherwise is the black jacket with the charcoal gray pants which were included. Ultimately it was a pointless purchase and the money could have been used toward a more useful suit.

Can anyone tell me who makes the shoes that Ryan gosling wears in the Crazy stupid love the light brown ones when they go shopping. Probably the nicest shoes I've ever seen. He has the best style in that movie. I wish I could pull off those outfits.
