Engine additives and fuel cleaners
Just wondering, Ive used this before on my older cars non bmw ones and was wondering what you guys thought of it.
Engine Restore and stuff like Slick 50 or Lucas engine oil additives? How about 44k fuel cleaner? Ive bought this care with 112k miles and just wondering based on the engine age etc. |

My m52tUb25 has over 125,000 miles and all the intake valves on ALL SIX Cylinders are super clean and spotless.
I always use top tier gas and either a bottle of techron cleaner or BG44K after each oil change. pictures of my intake valves available upon request. |

I used to use Restore in my truck and liked it. The valve train would always be quieter after I added it.
Never got any results from Lucas or Slick 50. This was also before I switched to synthetic oils. Since I've done that, I have not used any additives and nor will I. At 112K, I'd say any damage from poor maintenance is done, and no additive will change that. If the engine is in good shape, using the proper high quality oil IMHO is all you need. Fuel system cleaners are another story. Products like Techron I feel can be a good idea depending on the quality of the fuel available. |

It's a challenge to find it here, too (Australia), but last night I finally did.
It is a Chevron product, so look at your local filling stations or auto parts stores. |

This is an auto industry initiative to get gasoline marketers to improve their detergent mix. All the majors are on the USA list except BP. Chevron gas contains Techron at the pump (and Texaco). The others have similar stuff without the trade name Techron.

Techron does work. Actually BMW has an overly-inflated rebranded bottle of it that can be bought at the dealer. They recommend using it every x number of miles if you live in an area that has low-quality gas, but I use it probably once a year or so. Only thing it could hurt is my wallet, and even then that's like $9 or $4.50, depending on if they have one of those BOGO sales you see so often with them.
