The AEM Infinity may not be available for the E46 M3 until well into 2014. We've been dealing with the excitement and let down for several years now and have even gone to a training session. However, after speaking with multiple tuners that have tried the AEM infinity, it is not something that we want to even try to use at this point due to issues they are having. I think some day this will be a capable and reliable system but the first box is being designed for the Supra which is about the easiest car to do and there are still issues with it. The Supra has an EMS for the engine and another box that controls the car internals. It does not have drive by wire, SMG, vanos, and an extremely temperamental DME that monitors every engine parameter. The E46 M3 is quite a complex car and it took JP (our AEM engineer) about a year to work out all the limp mode issues that arise when you take the DME's control away from the engine. We finally perfected this with the HPF/AEM and were able to control multiple boost control solenoids, 4 maps, methanol, traction control, knock sirens, dual vanos, etc. etc.
We get requests every day to pair our turbo kits with the AEM Infinity but I don't want anybody to get their hopes up thinking this will be happening anytime in the near future. Although 2014 is a year and two months away, this is what we're projecting based on the history of AEM releases and delays of this product. We will continue pushing the envelope on the HPF turbo kits and we hope to offer a stage 5 with close to 1200rwhp!!! Chris.

That's rather unfortunate. I'm sure that's a bit of a disappointment for a few people on here.

I was thinking nine months. I have to say PSI Mike predicted a VERY long period of development when I was speaking with him in person about the AEM Infiniity. He said AEM has a history of leaving the Beta testing up to the early consumers who most of the time have terrible problems.
However I thought they had the Supra pretty well ironed out. Are they not even close yet? Can John, Chris and John help at least get AEM pointed in the right direction for our cars? Fourteen months is terrible. I don't doubt it. Now I wonder how many glitches the early BMW units are going to have. A lot by the sound of it. One thing for certain, Chris would never release anything until it is fully tested and approved by his team. A fulling functioning AEM Infinity should be worth waiting for.

Any real advantages the infinity will have over the current one minus the e85 on the fly? Traction control>>?
Startup? more power?

I don't think a 2013 release is out of the question.
Its just a matter of who wants to be the potential guinea pig. I for one am always down to trial new products.. most probably don't feel the same way, and I can't blame them.. its an expensive habit of mine.

Perhaps this is a good place to compare the Infinity with ProEFI? What makes sense about the Infinity for someone to want it? |

My car rips, and probably the only thing I'd do differently is spend some more time tuning it for drive-ability. My car was rushed out for the event.. we only had a week. I don't blame Jason/Saad.. but my car could use a bit more refinement with regards to transient throttle behavior. I just like trying new things, I'm also not saying I'm switching to AEM's Infinity ECU, or not.. but if its a year before its released I might be interested in trying something new then.. I get bored of things pretty quickly.

Actually the John Reed has already started working on the Z4M harness and we are running the AEM Gen2 box (30-6050) on that car. We should have the HPF Turbo Z4M up and running very soon.
Chris.

I'm sure there's many people who would be willing to be the guinea pig on for the Infinity. It's just matter of finding somebody who wants to put the time and effort into getting this ECU up and running. I hope that somebody jumps on this and gets out before 2014.

Does John recommend any other ways of achieving a flex fuel tune for the meantime?

Same here. I wanted to pair this with the 6766 turbo... Now I'm going to have to get 2 separate tunes if I decide not to wait... 2014 seems so faaaaaar.
