Don't go to Fremont, it's baaaaad.
I've been going to Mountain View for 8 years for service and it's been great.

Yeah, same here... MV wanted $65 for the E36 cabin filter--the plain one without the charcoal! What a fcuking jip! I recently drove to the Fremont dealership--the guy at the parts counter was pretty cool. No issues. I do most of my shopping online, but if pressed for time, I will pay dealer prices.

Just came back from a trip from SF->LA.
Going up i went 65mph to whole way on cruise w/ a/c off averaged 28.5 mpg Coming back down I drove a bit more aggressively although mostly averaging 75mph sometimes hitting 90mph...but got 30mpg. That should be considered good right? since our cars are rated 26 highway..I just thought it would be higher since our minivan with a 3.5L v6 can easily do 30 mpg while cruising and has more horsepower than a zhp LOL First time I drove the bimmer this far as we usually take the minivan (and it just had to be the weekend gas spiked up LOL)

Running on fumes. I have noticed that it seems like the sweet spot is right around 80 mph. That's a Jeremy Clarkson excuse but nonetheless... |

And so the drama continues. After filling it once without issue, I went to fill it today and it refused to fill, even on the slowest setting on the pump.
For the record, I didn't top off the car the one successful time as I've heard it can cause this problem. I made another service appointment at SCBMW...against every bit of good judgment I have...since they're the ones that touched it, I didn't have have much of a choice |

Bummer... at $5 a gallon, you should bring the car in with 30 miles to empty.

So I tried another gas station today...it did the same thing albeit not as badly. I was able to fill it on the slowest setting.
As a side note, after the canister was replaced I was getting much better gas mileage than before it was replaced. I was getting 22 mpg up from 19.8. My gas mileage has dropped down to 20.8 since yesterday |

The car was dropped off yesterday. I have a new service advisor, Tyler, who I've worked with before. Nice guy. Called him today and they don't have a definitive answer yet but they're thinking its the tank. I won't know anything until at least Tuesday

Anybody know a good dealer in the nyc area to deal with warranty issues?

If the repair is covered under warranty the diagnostic is free.
If they can't make the determination that it's warranty related, you pay.

thanks, i just read before on this thread that someone had their camshaft sensor replaced under warranty since i'm assuming it falls under emissions system. Does the MAF sensor fall under emissions also? Anyone know where in the manual i can find specific parts that are considered part of emissions system?
thanks |

I would think MAF falls under it too. Basically anything emissions related (things that trigger check engine light) is covered.

Well it seems like a lot of things are covered, will find out once I take it to the dealer. I was getting worried about having this engine but it might be a blessing in disguise having such a high unheard of warranty of 150k on a good chunk of components that usually fail. Only problem is that fuel tank outside of warranty lol, but I bought the car for so little I can still sell it later probably.
Has any place addressed the fuel pump issue for these cars? I know my acuras fuel pump is in the gas tank also. Anyone make an after market fuel pump you can just drop the tank and replace instead of replacing everything? |

I'm not sure about the MAF being covered. It is a different part than what the M54s get but they don't specify it anywhere in the documents that I know of. Although the SAP MAF is, interestingly enough.

Yeah I will find out soon enough lol. And hopefully when the car goes another 49k the pump will start to fail and get it replaced lol, maybe drive extra hard to give it some help lol. I just messaged the guy on another thread to see if he went through with it.
How are dealers with warranting things? I would assume they would love to do it as I'm again assuming BMW pays them for labor correct? |
