pets (especially cats) are helpless creatures. They can't call the authority for help and have no social safety nets to protect them. Human on the other hand are able to remove themselves from their undesire situation and go seek help.

big difference.

+1
Animals have no control over their situation.

Okay people, tossing a cat up some stairs and you're worried about if they'll be hurt? Really? When I was a kid, we had a cat that liked to go outside. He liked to go out so much he'd chew through the screen on the windows to get outside. As a solution, we decided to keep all the windows on the first floor closed. As an alternative, the cat decided to just go out the second story windows instead. In wonder and amazement, we'd get to watch a cat jumping out of second story windows. My brother, being even more curious than I, decided that the cat may have superpowers of flight and tested that theory by tossing the cat up and out of said second story window. Our cat did not fly, but liked the experience enough that it ran back in the house and up to my brother for another trip out the window.

Cliffs: cats can fall a pretty good distance without being hurt. Some may even enjoy it..

p.s. punt a cat around me and I'll find something to kick as well.
