AFE Filter - sprayed a dry filter
On week 2 of ownership of my '04 325i. Previous owner had the AFE intake installed and I have used K&N filters on Injen intakes in some previous rides. Those needed to be cleaned and recharged with oil spray from time to time. My BMW filter was dirty, so I thought I'd clean it today. Got it looking clean, then sprayed it with the K&N cleaner. But now I found out this was a dry AFE setup.
Anyone know if this means I have to scrap this filter and order another? Thanks. Last edited by T Mac; 11-10-2012 at 08:58 PM. |

I would just to be safe, dry filters are often made of a paper or other fibrous element that will turn to a mush/get denser and harden and loose its ability to trap dirt or flow air after its been oiled or even gotten very wet. I would just get another filter at this point rather than mess with it.

That's the way it looks from what I am reading more now. $75 to replace the filter. Crap.

Update: turns out it was not a dry filter and should be oiled. I just used K&N spray instead of AFE oil.
