car overheating/blown head gasket

Hi. I am a newbie. I have a 2004 bmw 325i with m56 engine. I ran over something and caused a chain reaction from breaking the belt, hoses and water pump to overheating and breaking the head gasket. I am having hard time finding a used M56 engine to do a swap. So I am going to spend $250 to see if I just need to replace the head gasket, since I already spent $530 to fix belts, hoses and water pump. My insurance company is refusing to pay for the damage, stating it couldn't have been caused by the accident. Any advice? I got one estimate to swap used engine at $4500. Help.

might be able to just change the headgasket unless the motor got damaged from the overheating.

Thanks for your reply. I am getting it checked out for that. If all checks out, I'd rather keep my engine. But if I can't I've been getting some used engine with warranty from $1900 to $2690. They're all a-grade with 90 days to 2 year warranty but big price difference. I can't figure out why some place charge such high prices.

it depends on how much they get them for cause all business is based on what they can profit out of it.

Worth a shot trying to repair the engine, what's the worst you can do now that it's already busted. Try to remove the head studs, if they snap then you can either give up and swap. Or take it to a machine shop and have them refinish the block.

Thanks for your reply. Just got the result of the back and it's no good. I gotta swap. If you know a reputable engine for sale shops, let me know. So far, I got couple of places for under $2000. I will be ordering tomorrow. Thanks.
