Question on oil separator

I am the new "kid on the block". I love my 330 I. 10 years old with 120,000 miles is looks and runs like a new car. Since I do most work on my car myself I look forward to getting a lot of wisdom from my fellow BMW drivers.
Talking about wisdom. Yesterday I changed my oil separator. A bit tight but not bad. Just one question: there is a small vaccuum port in teh middle of the oil separator. It had a small boot covering this port. The boot fell off and is now hiding behind the motor mount. So I went to my dealer to get a new one and they sold me a 1m vaccuum hose for this port but did not know where to connect it on the other side. I put on the hose but plugged it. Runs great. Anyone have any ideas if there is really a need for this hose? Since I did not have a hose connected before I also cannot find a opposite connection.
Just curious.
