I ordered my shift boot last night, where am I supposed to secure it when I install it?

That's pretty a cool idea.

That depends on whether his shift boot comes with the plastic piece that snaps in.
BMW does not sell it as a separate part, and they are notoriously hard to find for some reason. I had to cut up my shifter to make mine. Luckily, I had an extra laying around. |

Nope, it's an automatic.. Which I love. I will never sell this car.
I use those lower sport gears when I'm out having fun, still have to bump it up for the next gear or I'll hit the limiter. It's not much different. Not sure why it matters that it's not a step.. Thread is for autos/steps. Last edited by RKiepper; 10-25-2012 at 02:19 PM. |

Nope, mine just came with the boot and I have the style like RKiepper has. I guess I just threw $20 down the toilet.

It doesn't particularly matter, it's just nomenclature. By the way, two periods in a row doesn't meaning anything. If you wish to use an ellipsis, it's three periods, like this...

I've autocrossed with it a handful of times. It's not too bad for what it is but if it ever goes I will no doubt replace it with a 5 speed.

When you do replace the steptronic, kindly leave this thread, and wipe your feet.

I love the flexibility that the steptronic offers! Sort of mood fitting. The only this I dislike is the rpm drop off shifting from 3rd to 4th in manual mode.
2002 325i sorta stock. Kicker 6.5" in door, Blaupunkt 3" mids in door, kicker 6.5" subs in rear deck. 134,980 |

I really hate my steptronic It never responds to you in any way, if flooring it doesn't matter how many times you up shift it will still take it to 6.5k
Same theory about how long it takes to shift The only reason why I have the slowtronic is because Of my family can't drive Manuel

I was dusting my buddies Jetta turbo in all areas except for when I went from 3rd to 4th. Going to 6500 or a little less. In any other gear I could just pull away from him when ever I wanted. But was totally beat down in 4th and 5th. 3rd gear is a beast in the range of 2500 all up to 6000 rpm. Wish there was a reprogram for that gap between 3 and 4. But I always catch him at the top end once 5th rpms hit around 3000.
