Glad to have my E46 M3 Back!

I had the SMG relay switched replaced last week, so the dealer gave me a new 528i as a loaner. Pardon the language, but what a piece of sh*t! I hated it! Hated the interior layout, the quality of the materials, the stupid iDrive, the keyless ignition, and most of all, the automatic engine shutoff at redlights (wonder how many starters you go through in the first three years)!

I am afraid I don't like the new direction BMW is going. It is obvious they are only interested in the number of cars they can sell - with the most gizmos possible. My 2006 M3 may be the last BMW I own.

OK, maybe the current M3, but the new Porsche Boxter S might be cheap enough to buy used in 3 years as a replacement.

I bet you're relieved that a relatively inexpensive relay resolved your drivability issues. It's not common to escape a Dealer without them picking your pockets!

At least they have come forward with a procedure to disable the start/stop feature on the new M3 - I am not a fan of the start/stop technology in any cars.

It had the override button which I immediately punched everytime I climbed into the car. I used to have a 1997 e39 528i and loved it - but this car had the feel of an overpriced, German Camry.

Not really - the $15 part cost $225 to put in.

From what I read they flash the ecu (or whatever module is responsible for the start/stop function) to an 'older' spec to cancel the function and that it was all software and not hardware.
