For all the people who are complaining about the lag, either get a tune or get sprint booster. That will eliminate(reduce) the lag. Please dont turn this thread into sprint booster thread though. I was just suggesting a possible solution to the lag. I plan to get a used sprint booster(v1) and connect it to a switch(sport switch from M3) so I can turn it off when I dont need or have to reverse(I have to parallel park and dont want to hit anyone). Have been keeping my eye on the classified's for a v1 sprint booster and a switch panel with heated seats, HK, DSC and SPORT buttons. I know there is a thread on V2 sprint booster connected to the SPORT button. But I only want it ON or OFF so V1 will do for me.

I love my steptronic for my daily driver needs, and will buy another one without any hesitation for a DD.

I have a convertible, but I must say that the coupe, especially in that color, is quite possibly the best looking coupe ever built. Absolutely beautiful!

If you have a step, post up a picture.

What are your current mods?

Overall I am happy with the car and here she is bone stock

I think the E46 facelift coupe is BMWs best looking car ever made, until they came out with this model year of 5 series. I can't stop looking at my car. It's like when a hot girl walks by and you do a head turn. I look at my car one last time before I turn the corner to my apartment door.

I have an 00 328i with automatic and love the idea of not having a clutch but this one has no reverse. Been turning the idea over in my head of what to replace it with and thought about a steptronic but I have also wondered about smg. Done some searching about both and figured that the steptronic would be way easier but if an smg could be put in it then it would be more fun and still without the clutch. Don't really know what I am going to do only that I wont be doing a manual swap.

There should be a method by which everyone who enters this thread would have to enter their VIN and if your car is not a Step, then you couldn't post. I'd be in favor of that to keep the 3 pedal bunch away.

If it's the GM transmission it could be the Reverse solenoid. $250 fix.

This would be a nice feature. My sister is going to want to drive my car when I come home this week for Thanksgiving. I'll let her, but I expect maximum butthole puckering. My dad I'm not worried about, and my mom won't care to drive it.

Unfortunately, Home Ministry disapproved purchasing a manual for this exact reason. She prefers driving steptronic.

Ive owned and driven manuals before and they're great.

Switched to auto/step. Now I can sit anyway I want while driving esp in heavy traffic. And with my left foot and 1 hand free, the possibilities are endless.

Steptronic checking in. I would definitely like to get into a manual for my next car, but as far as automatics go, I love it. There's a trick to making it smooth while in Steptronic mode.

I like this look. Do you have close up pic? What paint did you use for the bowls?

No, you just have to push your boot down through the larger plastic panel that surrounds the shifter. Then you can remove your old boot from the plastic (it will probably peel right off), and then glue your new one in. I tried several glues before just using a hot glue gun to secure it. You have to do some trimming and cut a few notches into the new boot. Just use your original boot as a template. Then, just press the whole thing back in to the bottom of the plastic piece. This will make more sense once you remove it.
The hardest part will be removing your shift knob. You just have to pull straight up on it. Don't twist it while you are pulling. It will seem like you are breaking it, and you will swear that there is a screw or something holding it in, but there is not. Be very careful to pull up on it with your head out of the way. I got mine out the first time, without whacking my head, but I ended up putting my new knob in before I put the boot on, so I had to remove it again. That is when I managed to whack myself right in the forehead. It does not release slowly, it breaks loose all at once. If it is the original knob, it will be hard as Hell to remove the first time. I almost gave up, but it finally came out with one last massive pull. You have to straddle the shifter, while sitting on your console. So, watch out for any other parts that may get in the way as well. If you have a sunroof, you can open it, so you can stand over it to get more leverage. If you do that, you may want to wear a cup, or risk damage to other parts.
