With tax - this seems a bit high for a dealership. The difficulty for most will be financing a car that on paper (from a loan officers perspective ) is worth about 5k.

How did it make its way from socal to Chicago? Was there an owner in between?

Maybe the dealer bought it directly from the eBay transaction. I think the final price was in the $17.5k range.

i doubt any dealer would go out of their way to buy a modified car - esp one that cannot be financed

I went and looked at it last weekend. Sounds like the owner of the dealership bought it for his personal toy, or his sons. It was in pretty good shape.

Does anyone know if the FK coilovers allow you to adjust the ride height on this? I'm getting pretty serious about it but at it's current height of 5 inches off the ground it won't ever make it into my drive way. My wife would stab me if I brought it home and couldn't get it in the driveway. There are a whole bunch of little things wrong with it as well. I'm wondering if every year more and more things will go wrong and eventually turn into a money pit.

The OP has two numbers listed here. I tried sending him a text with no reply. Is it too much to give 'em a call? I'm not sure I would want people calling me about a car that I had a hard time selling and asking all sorts of questions.

Congrats on the purchase, I had been looking at that car for months... just couldn't pull the trigger.

Really a stunning car. Sure it's got little things that aren't 100% sorted. Who cares it's a S54 in a freaking wagon. It's tail waggin, perma-grin, head turning, ear orgasm, rubber burning awesomeness.

And to reply to some of the haters in previous posts, yes a "Car Dealer" gasp.... went out of his way to get this car and put it on his showroom floor. Why would he do this? Because he gets it, he's a SCCA / NASA Club racer and a true car enthusiast. He's done the One Lap, drove 15 hours at 25 Hour at Thunderhill last month, has a Spec Miata, IT & STU VW's. A lot of his customers are the same sort and that is why his dealerships are successful. That is why I went there.

Yes it is a car that is hard to finance if you are a mediocre dealership, but a dealer that "gets it" finds a way. I financed 70% with average credit.

Beaten on by a rich teenager? Wow- that misnomer is hilarious. I know that kid and he has more mechanical knowledge than the majority on this forum. He sells cars and is by no means rich. He may have driven the wagon but I'm sure he didn't drive it as hard as I have in the last 24 hours.

I'm too old to get into pissing matches on forums but just want to set the record straight. Dang am I happy this is in my garage. The franken-wagon is definitely not for the dude that wants an M3, clearly it's for the dudette that wants a bitchn' wagon for her dogs.

That is really awesome. I had an E46 wagon and the only thing that would have made it better is more power and, well, more "M." Which is what you got.
Share some more pics when you get it, and hope your dogs enjoy yours as much as my golden enjoyed mine.

I got S54 in my E36, It is great engine but it is not an engine were you would pay 10K to have it in your non M BMW.
