Solution to the infamous SMG 'slurring of the gears' problem?
Hi All -
We are now (we did not have it in the first part of the season) having the famous SMG 'slurring' of the gears anomaly on 3-4 upshifts. Has anyone ever found a definite solution the problem?

What do you mean "slurring" of the gears? If you mean that the upshift isn't quick & crisp then I had that problem about a year ago on the 2-3 upshift. I used to be able to chirp the tires in the 1-2 & the 2-3 gear change with DSC off and the transmission in S6. All of a sudden the 2-3 gear change was kinda lazy and the revs would go up like the clutch was slipping. Took it to the dealer and of course they couldn't find anything wrong.
Here is how I corrected it. I did the double-paddle hold trick that is described in the owners manual. I also reset the tire monitor. I had to do this a couple times each and I can't remember the order I did them in but everntually the problem went away and I was once again getting crisp & quick 2-3 upshifts in S6. The problem hasn't happened again in over 20k miles. Hope this helps. Good luck!! |

ABOVE 40 mph (I do mine @ 50mph) put the car into neutral (0 in your case) and hold down both paddle shifters for approx 4 seconds. Once complete, make sure your foot is not on the throttle and move the selector back to the drive position (move selector to the right). That is it.

The 3-4 shifts can also be caused by the compression springs in the tranny which are pretty cheap. It wouldn't hurt to get the codes read by the DIS system and see what errors are there. Not everything causes a COG light. Another thing to consider are sychros (depending on mileage and how hard you drive the car).

Tire reset procedure: start the car, before putting the car into gear press and hold the tire monitor button (on panel with sport button) for approx 5 seconds, put the car in gear and drive away. Once the reset is done the TPMS light on the dash will turn off and you're set.

Hey guys, I had the slippage and nasty feeling in the SMG system, I did a hard reset and everything was great after that
Unplug negative terminal of battery and let sit for 5 hrs
