Connecting the SWI-RC's steering wheel control

I see that someone has posted a similar question but I was not clear about the response. I installing a Kenwood KDC BT852HD into my 2001 E46 330ci. However I am stumped about what needs to be done to connect the PAC SWI-RC. The instructions say “Connecting the SWI-RC's steering wheel control input wire to vehicle plug. Connect the SWI-RC's Yellow wire to White/Red/Yellow-dots or White/Gray/Yellow-dots .You must get the wire at the steering wheel column. Cut wire in half. Connect the INTERFACE's Yellow wire to the steering wheel side of the cut wire. Insulate remaining cut wire. “ The word cut and steering wheel column makes me a but uncomfortable. But with some help I am sure I can pull it of. So where to I find the dotted wire? Do I have to remove something in the area of the column to get to it?

THe module that you bought should have came with a little instruction booklet/pamphlet. On that paper is a website where you can see a very detailed picture of where the wires are located and how to wire it up. Wiring up is easy, programming it is where those POS give me trouble. I've installed 100 + of these things and programming always gives me issues, but they do always work.

Just went to the Pac website and they don't have pics for the swi-rc integration. I've done a ton of these (not in the e46) and the website has had all of the wire locations. The instructions are pretty self explanatory though, you should be able to follow them step by step and be fine. I'll have to post up a detailed DIY when I do one in my vehicle.

If you are really stumped, and I will admit that I was, given the documentation that came with my adapter, get a local stereo shop to do it for you. Most likely, they have seen it and done it before. They only charged $50 to hook mine up.

It's not hard to find. Drop the steering column shroud, 2 screws and two pops. Look for the big wire bundle coming down. Find said wire and away you go.
