E36 m3 vs E46 zhp insurance
Currently have a 2002 330i m/t mtech1 and may be looking to move up another level come spring. The topic has been beat to death about which car is better but being 17-18 come buying time which insurance would be better? Liability only clean driving record

I'll bet there isn't much difference in insurance. Check with your agent.

It depends on your provider... call your agent.

If I got a nice ZHP or e36 M3, I would not get liability only.

^Agreed. In my experience, the M3 will be a lot more. The ins company won't know the difference in a ZHP and a "regular" 330i.

Stop right there. If you can't even afford proper insurance there's no way in hell you can afford to maintain an M3. Edit: Just saw he means an E36 M3. Which doesn't change my opinion at all. Skimping on the insurance to buy something you really can't afford is stupid.

I didn't even notice the liability only thing... come on guy, really? I get it for a sub $5000 car, but on something that's got a bit of resale value, why risk it?

Yup, I feel the exact same way. My auto 330 with 132k on it has full coverage.

Why would it be different? It's no more for a car with the premium or sports package. Zhp is just a package.

Since you are mentioning it as a 330i, I am assuming you are considering a sedan(both e46 zhp or e36 m3).
As long as its a sedan, the insurance is going to be cheaper for you. M might be higher than 330 zhp sedan, but you will have to talk to the agent for that being much older car. But as soon as you get it in a coupe, its considered a sports car so the insurance goes a little up. My point is, insurance for 330ci is going to be more than 330i. May be the insurance on 325ci is more than a 330i zhp. And most companies do not have an option for performance package for 330. Its either 325 or 330, so no zhp option. Whatever the case is, you should get full insurance. Do not skimp on insurance on these cars. These cars are expensive to fix if in an accident.

Difference will be negligible. I've had both cars with full coverage. Power-to-weight is similar. Higher rate goes to the car that's worth more money -- probably the ZHP. Simple as that.

your better bet would be to buy a car you can afford to maintain and have proper insurance coverage on.

Apparently no one here remembers being 18. He will buy the M3 w/liability coverage. Have fun kid and don't wreck it.

But you've got zero coverage for your car. And while it's cute to say "I'm a safe driver", there are a lot of things you just can't predict. Good luck, though. For liability only, there really shouldn't be that much difference between the two cars.

Accidents are accidents. Not "ha did that on purpose" accidents happen to the best drivers I promise. No matter how careful you are there will always be that moron soccer mom doing her makeup and on her cell phone while yelling at her kids in the SUV she thinks she can see out of
