Yep. Instead of going out and spending $100 on Friday or Saturday night, I make $100.

Do this 8 times per month and that's $1600...

How would 8 shifts at $100 a shift equate to $1600... that would be $800, not spending $100 on a friday isnt the same as making $100. None the less I wish my 330I had that low of miles.

He's saying if he works Friday AND saturday, he would make $1600 extra a month... Good idea, but still, valets do not make THAT much unless you are the head guy, and also depends on where you work. When I was younger, I used to only make about $12/hr, that's not nearly enough to support a 2-car hobbie, much less a M and e46.

I sense an income he is not telling us about Even if he made $50k at valet, that's not enough to support those cars, unless he has a paid off house and NO bills/debt whatsoever.

So if you work every day of the week, how do you have time to work on your auto->manual swap?

When comparing my aggregate monthly income/consumption to one of my friends who spends $100 going out on Friday and Saturday, it does equate to $1600. I have $1600 of additional "budget" when compared to him, although it is only $800 of additional income.

I'm not sure where you valet'd, but you make way more than $12 an hour in tips. I remember ten years ago I knew a valet at a Marriott and he made easily over $100 a night.

He also didn't say he worked every day of the week. But even if he did, if he works 40 hours a week that leaves every weeknight and all day saturday and sunday for tinkering with his cars.

He held on to a dry silk ribbon that was non conductive. The actual wet string that conducted the electricity into the Leyden Jar was separate.

But he DID get shocked by static electricity when he got close to the key after the experiment.

Valets in any decent location make $100+ on a Friday/Saturday night. If it is a hotel, then Sunday morning is good.

Yea the place I valeted was crap, but still, he would have to make $200 a day to make ~$50k, then the $800 extra a month, so thats an extra ~$10k a year. SOOO even with $60k I would find it hard to afford both of those cars.

Income is only half of the equation. And even on that side you are making assumptions. You know nothing about the expenses side. He obviously affords it if he has both cars. Maybe he has really cheap rent and only eats Ramen noodles.
