Vanos Oil Leak

Thanks...don't recall manufacturer of vcg but that doesn't sound familiar. Dark here on east coast but will take picture. Must admit I still don't see vcg as cause. It would have to run down the front of the vanos and that's not happening. Maybe vanos gasket? Sounds like a replacement of vcg, vanos and gasket might be the easiest way except for $$$.

To give you all the info, my VCG currently leaks and you can see the clean oil trail down the front of the head between the two half moons on the VCG.

I am the author of this thread at origin. It was the VCG. A cheap, easy repair with several utube videos to assist. Change the spark plugs at the same time too.

Clean the oil off of that hose real well, too. It can ruin rad hoses.

Yeah it's the valve cover gasket. I had a oil leak in the same spot and it was leaking on to the headers so it was smoking a lot lol.

Thanks for all the advice. Still skeptical about vcg with no visible trail. Guess I'll replace vcg and vanos just for good measure. Any experience with Dr. Vanos and rebuilt vanos? Thanks again!

Dr. Vanos does a fine job for $250 you won't have to touch the inside of the vanos. Just exchange.
Beisan costs like $135 in parts and you must have a 4" vise and impact wrench.

So DIY saves you like $130 total if you have the tools.

Both give same results.

Thanks. I did the besian seals rebuild about 30K ago but not the rattle rebuild. I don't think the besian addresses solenoids or o rings which is my partial concern. Seems Dr. Vanos may be the better deal if it includes new solenoids and O rings. Need to check.

Do you rattle?

And easy DIY for the O-rings and solenoids you mention. I'd not change out the vanos for those alone.

Thanks...no rattle. Starting to believe vcg. It is a reinz gasket on there now. I also saw a puff of smoke from the back of the engine compartment. This is the same characteristic that prompted the change less than 30K ago. Thanks for all the gouge.
