Full size pistol recommendation
I'm looking for a duty sized 9mm pistol that MUST have an ambi-safety (lefty here)
-CZ SP01 -Sig P226 x5 -M&P 9 -BHP I've crossed the 1911 in 9mm off the list. Those guns tend to be more finicky than their 45 caliber brothers. I can't really think of any other modern service pistol that fits this requirement. I'm leaning the most to the CZ and M&P. Hopefully I can get both in CA.... Thanks! |

I'm very happy with my M&P, although mine doesn't have a thumb safety on it... it's all internal.
Springfield's XD felt pretty good, but the ergonomics of the M&P just felt better to me.

Are you looking for strictly a range gun or will this be playing another role?
I'm grabbing a Springfield XDM 4.5 in 9mm soon. I realize it doesn't have the external safety switch that you mentioned, but it is a heck of a gun. The 226, M&P, and BHPs are all great too (no experience with the CZ). A lot of it comes down to what feels most comfortable to you as well. For instance, the 226 and BHP have a different feel and perhaps one would fit your hand better than the other.

I'm in CA, no ccw for me here. As for guns without safeties, I own/owned numerous prior, so condition 1 carry capability is a must this time around. I'm just trying something new. As a caveat, I should mention that I've owned something similar to almost all of those guns, sans manual switch. Owned a P229, BHP, CZ P01, FNP. Quote:

I just got my permit to purchase a handgun from the people republic of New Jersey and I need to buy an all-metal pistol.Don't care about the weight since it's going to be a HD and range gun...I have an $800 budget.Any recommendation?
