Custom 3" exhaust

Finally got around to taking a couple of pictures (albeit crappy ones) of the 3" exhaust on the race car. It's Supersprint headers to a Burns 3" merge collector to a Magnaflow 4" x 9" x 14" muffler capped off with a Borla 15" x 5" round muffler terminating before the diff. I have a turn-down that should probably go on there as well. I used two old rubber E46 transmission mount rubbers to mount the exhaust to the rearmost tunnel reinforcement plate. The whole thing is very light - it's mostly 18 gauge stainless tubing.

Sound is pretty excellent - no rasp to speak of as the perforated glass-pack type mufflers kill high frequencies very effectively. I don't drive the car on the street so I don't care too much about how it sounds but it just can't be too loud. Having said that, it's more than quiet enough for me to use on the street, if it terminated at the bumper.

Sound clips? Power gains?

I guess I could grab a sound clip with my phone. I don't really have a good camera for getting sound. I'll give it a shot sometime soon.

With the new intake and the exhaust it should pick up a little power versus where it was last year, which was 228hp at the wheels on a Dynojet. Mostly this was made to be light and meet our sound regulations. I don't expect to be back on a dyno until it's Megasquirted and running on E85

Can you take any pictures of the merger I'd like to see how it compares to the placement of the merger in my setup.

It's the first picture.

It is in the first pic, but it's hard to see. The merge on this exhaust is a work of art... it was made many years ago at Burns Stainless.

I actually put a camera on the car and drove it to attempt to get a sound clip but it clipped the mic. I'll try again sometime soon.

Haha wow, wasn't expecting it to be all rusty. I see it now. I thought it was one of the new Burns mergers sold in the group buy. Looks like the same placement as mine. (I have the merge from the group buy) Good to see that nothing crazy was done with the placement of mine.

The merge is not rusty. The pipe after the merge is rusty, because that's a piece of aluminized pipe.

It's in pretty good shape considering it's almost ten years old.

Is it painted black then?

It has weld-through primer on it.
