How to upgrade auto tranny?

hello guys,

i´m curious about all those forced induction guys running auto trannys and sometimes even run shorter diffs.

how to those guys prevent their transmission from going into limp mode at high speeds?

i dynoed my car (2002 330iCA with 3.91 diff) yesterday at 236hp in fourth gear were torque isn´t limited and when measured in fifth gear the transmission ecu lowers the power to 204hp.
thats exactly why the car feels awefull in fifth gear at speeds over 200km/h. It accelerates easily to 200km/h in fourth gear just to flatten out at 220 in fifth gear.

is there some tuner able to unlock this limiter? i really want to get rid of it

swap it for a manual? i sold my complete swap for $1000. im sure the guy who bought it was very happy with it

Nope, will stick with auto as i´m driving in traffic jam to often.

any tranny mods?

the tranny itself is stock, overhauled at 99.000km with now 24.000km used. i´m running Z4 Software and the egs was upgraded with the economy mod from eduard aka megawatt. the diff was changed from 3.38 to 3.91 which gives much better response.

just to be precise: i don´t want to go FI, i´m just curious if the FI guys have the same problem like i have right now.

5600rpm in fifth gear, everything is well.

5700rpm in fifth gear and the tranny goes into limp mode.

I just want to get rid of that secondary speed limiter in the tranny ecu

Im new to the Force induction myself but I am doing a complete ZHP manual tranny conversion swap, including drive shaft and differential and with UUC lightweight flywheel and clutch setups. I pretty much have everything now. Yesterday was my go crazy and purchase and pick it all up day.

I was having trouble finding everything to upgrade my steptronic so manual was the next best thing.

I have hit 155 on my step with no issues. But that before the eco mod.

Well, ZHP uses GM tranny, maybe the limits are different to my ZF.

It seems to depend on the rpm´s rather then the speed itself. the car made 240km/h with the long diff, and now it goes 220-225km/h with the short diff, as the tranny ecu lowers the power to around 200hp

I am using a 3.64 diff. hmmm

well, 155mph is pretty much 250km/h which is reached at 5700rpm. i guess the zhp egs is limited to higher rpms due to the shorter diff.

My ZF tranny out of my ZHP is sitting up at IPT getting the complete upgrade overhaul as it started slipping in 2/3 and 3/4 shifts. The OS Giken also set off the codes about "wrong wheel speeds". I should have it back end of next week. We will see.

Finally! Someone else takes the plunge.

I was getting tired of fielding questions when all I have is a lump in the corner of my shop for 2 years without any use.

If you can find it at dealer cost it is around 1500-1800 to rebuild. Mine was $1550 on my 323ci.

In my case, I needed something to handle more power....a lot more power.

I think the OP's issue is software related.
