ok, left bank was 000 and right bank 170 ish...I filled up 2 gallons and the left side is still 000 and the right side is now 225. Yes the tank had 1/4 gallon and was there was enough fuel to cover most of the pump when I removed it. When I floor it and keep it above 3k the car stays on but dies once I depress the accelerator.

Left side will not start to fill until over 1/2 tank, do not worry about this now.
So you were able to start the car, but it dies above 3k RPM? There must be more history here? When was fuel filter last changed?

When I removed the filter, the fuel that was drained was pretty dirty from the back side. The filter was changed 50k ago on his car. He said his car was hesitating a little bit when accelerating that day he took it to work, and on the way home when gasing it a little on the freeway, it started to die and wouldn't start anymore once pulled over.

And the only way I can start the car is if I floor the pedal and keep it over 3k, after that it dies again. I was thinking vaccum leak but I checked all intake hose and throttle body boot and saw no crack. What I'm wondering is why there's no pressure at the fuel rail? It read's 0psi when on pos 2 and also 0psi when I crank it and gas it.

No offense, but I'd want to make sure that Schrader valve stem is being depressed when you screw on the gauge. Could take the valve out temporarily before you screw on the gauge.
And are we considering the ICV as a possible barrier to idling? Last edited by Stinger9; 11-27-2012 at 07:54 PM. |

Turn engine off and depress the Schreader valve with a toothpick cut flat or something else to fit inside the test port. The fuel rail should hold pressure for hours. Watch your eyes, use a rag to protect the spray from going everywhere.

The valve was depressed. I just did the test on my car and the pressure was normal. But on his car, it is still 0.

Then you have a problem, back track, spare hose on pump output into a jug to make sure you have fuel coming out of the tank.
Did you get a pump assembly or just replace the pump?? Maybe wired backwards?

Got the pump from BMA, and I double checked the hose on the filter and pump. What could be the reason why the fuel rail is not getting fuel?

Would not worry about the drivers side sending unit for now unless you are a stickler for PM. Easy enough to do in the future if you think you need to replace it.
I always use my trip odometer along with fuel gauge to determine when I should refuel. As I am teaching my daughter who is just starting to drive, when the car is at 1/4 tank, it is time to fuel up. Mainly to keep from forgetting and then being in a rush and pushing it because you have to be somewhere.

If you have good volume from the pump, then move toward the filter and try there. 30 second volume is just over 1 qt. It is possible you got a faulty pump, but I do not think I have ever heard of anyone getting a failure out of the box.

Ok I have been having these same issues with the car stalling. My problem seems to be the worst after the car has sat for a few hours. If i press the throttle and hold it at 1500 rpm for 3 to 5 min then the car is fine after that but if i dont it shakes then cuts off. I just replaced the fuel filter and the sending unit on the passenger side last night and still have the same issue. Ill be changing the relay later today. ANy one have any other suggestions?

Way too touchy son. Nothing in my post was smart ass. The only basis for knowing what is going on with your car is the details you post here. We can't see your car ourselves and we can't hear you speak. Big difference between the fuel pump and the sending unit.
Good luck with your problem. |
